This years team is the perfect example of why I am okay with extending the Playoff

None of us expected this squad to be a Playoff team; however, with how the SEC is looking, would anyone be shocked if we went 7-1 before Bama? Let's say we had beaten FSU in OT and ended this season 10-2 with losses to Bama and one other SEC team...

This would be a dangerous lower seed team in the College Playoff that would make some noise. Just my opinion.

I agree that it would benefit us this year, but unbiased, I still think that a team with 2 or 3 losses should usually not have a chance to make the championship game if they happen to get hot at the end of the year (unless there aren't any other teams).

The National Champion should be one of the 2 or 3 teams that played an exceptional regular season.

You've got a right to your opinion, I reckon. It's good if you like the idea of expanding the playoff. I personally don't like the thought of expanding it. The whole idea of a four-team playoff in the first place was supposedly to determine who the best team was without the subjective award a la coaches' polls and the AP at the end of the year. SURELY that best team is among the top four ranked at the end of the season. There is no need to turn the CFP playoff into a football version of March Madness. The logistics of traveling with a football team -v- a basketball team is plenty enough alone to see that it's ridiculous. Add to that the fact that football is centered around extreme physical contact and the teams have already played at least 12 or 13 games over the course of 15 weeks.

No. I don't think I want to see college football being played all the way to mid-February even if it does appear to possibly, in some slight way, benefit my team.

IDK why CFB is the only sport that has convinced people playoffs are bad for a regular season and or give teams a chance that shouldn't have one. Playoffs make the season more exciting by keeping more teams/fanbases in the hunt for a title.

While I love the direction this team is headed, we could just as easily be 3-5 going into Bama week. These next couple of weeks will be tough.

And yet, somehow, every other division does it. With fewer resources, none the less.

Last years 1 vs 4 seed made me resent the idea of playoff expansion. I can’t imagine what a 1 vs 12 seed game would look like

A 12 team playoff is designed for one reason. Money.

It allows fir more playoff games, it allows for the big conferences to all get a share, it allows at least one small conference to get a share, and everyone is happy.

They aren’t inviting the 12 best teams. They are doing this to spread more money to the conferences who then spread it out as they wish to their members.

And much smaller venues, smaller fan bases, etc…

Do you really WANT to emulate the lower tiers?

Within 5-10 years you will have a 8-12 seed become CFP champion in a playoff run in which a 3 loss team upsets a few undefeated teams along the way. While it will be exciting, as a lifelong fan of the regular season being just about everything in college football, Im not sure how I will feel about the result.

It’s remarkable that it’s taken the leaders who make these decisions decades to even contemplate how this might be possible when literally every other level of football has a playoff system.

Begs the question why it’s taken so long. Surely it’s not about money is it? I mean isn’t all about the kids and what’s best for the student athletes?

I think that the level of play is going to drop and it’s going to be noticeable when teams have to play 16 games or so. Injuries and wear and tear will pile up and key players will go down. For some teams it won’t be pretty.

If a 12 made it, they're obviously playing ship quality ball.

If LSU were to go 12-0 would you be ok with 8 more teams getting into the playoff?

I keep going back and forth in my head. I freaking love the playoffs and how exciting playoff games are in any sport. But in any sport with big playoffs it means the best team can get knocked out by a hot team. I always thought it was funny how we allow our sports to be a "marathon" regular season and then it's like we take the top 10 marathon times and tell them to run a 100 yard sprint, and the winner of that is the champion.

No doubt. They will have obviously be rewarded as the team playing the best football for a 3-4 week stretch. By being a 12 seed, it will also be obvious that they weren't playing the best football for the 12-13 week regular season. Again, it will be exciting, just a whole lot different than what we currently do to determine a champion.
