From what I saw of Hillard, he will not be in the SEC starting rotation. Hope I am wrong.
we have seen him pitch 150 plus innings I suppose. We know he is productive.

A few years ago he became our FRiday guy in SEC and did just fine. I would not rule him out.

Hilliard has always shown flashes of greatness but he’s never been able to sustain it. He’s not suddenly going to become something else in his 5th season on campus.

He’s coming off a major surgery, I’m not sure they would jeopardize his arm just yet. He has some serious potential though.

Riley Cooper looked good also.

Didn’t even see Vietmeir or Hellmers either. Surprised Lansville and Collins got in over them.

I'm still holding out hope that Fontenot, Edwards, or Hellmers will become that Saturday guy and let Hilliard move back to Sunday. I really don't like relying on Floyd as a starter.

Look for Hellmers to possibly start Wednesday vs LA Tech with Vietmeier behind him.

I disagree. As a starter Hilliard has always been a 3.5 ish ERA guy which is plenty good enough for a Sunday starter.

Its out of the bullpen that he has never been able to gain consistency.

We have a good pitching staff, we just lack a couple of elite pitchers at the top. That might put us at a disadvantage to teams that have an elite arm or two. As the other poster mentioned, once we get into the bullpen our bats should swing the advantage back to us.

As for the Saturday guy, people on the inside talk a lot about Floyd. He was Hilliards sleeper pick. Coach Kelly mentioned him as someone to watch. I personally don't see it. I don't understand why you wouldn't try some off speed with that kind of lead. I also noticed that he gets flustered easily. Coleman had good control. When he has control that is your Saturday guy.

Just to mention, we will have some elite arms in 2023. Next year's team will be better than this one.
