Did that need to be stated? It was obviously known.

yeah, but you made it seem like the only reason they were jacked up, was because it was the last game at the box

You are coming dangerously close to fitting the definition of stalking.....seeking out a poster to flame and call names when that poster has not responded to any of your posts.

Keep it up and the admins might want to consider giving you a little "timeout" session.

Think about it....

you don't think the team got pissed off because of that play?

I'm sure they were pissed off but to suggest that was the reason for the 3 HRs is absurd. If that were the case, we should try to piss them off before every game.

The next day that second base umpire was calling first base. UC got a runner on first. We tried to pick him off several times in a row with the last time being very, very close. I sat right by first base in the grandstand. I yelled at him, "Turn your back and call him out!!!" My entire section of the grandstand started laughing. Matt Clark, our first baseman, turned towards the grandstand and laughed.

simple: you can't make a call on something you didn't see.

umpire #1: did you see it? I didn't
umpire #2: did you see it? I didn't
umpire #3: did you see it? I didn't

What I was getting at, that you completely missed, if you didn't see the play (tag out) you can't call him out...

I have nothing against UC-Irvine.

Mike Gillespie, otoh, is pretty far up the prick meter.... almost in Pat Murphy range.

I know the umps are human and prone to mistakes but make a mistake on a plays THAT YOU SAW not one that you DIDN'T SEE

That(along with LSU-Auburn 2006) was about the maddest I've EVER been at officiating.

Much like you said, you can CLEARLY see the ump not looking at second base. Then he sees the defense jumping up and down while the LSU guy is clearly standing on second base, and just decides to call him out?

Looking back at the play now, it's funny to see the ref clearly not see the tag and play but call the dude out.

TURRIBLE!!

it's a shame that a grown man can make a call because a 18 year old told him it happened...

baffling...

I mean, i get angry with officiating, but this was one of the worst.

Like it's been said, sometimes an ump just blows a call and as bad as it is, it's somewhat "understandable" because the game is played so fast and they are looking at multiple things going on.

But again, this guy was staring at home plate, heard a commotion, turned around and saw some kids cheering, and just gave the out signal, though he had ZERO clue as to what had just transpired.

It was maddening.

i loved how security had to be around the umps at all times after that call. Also you know a ump is bad if espn announcers are willing to call them out. I agree though sometimes a bad call just happens and you roll with it but this one was way past that. If he was umping a regional or super id be pissed knowing his history

it's mind boggling to me how you can be paid as a ump, and make a call you didn't even see...

if this would have happened to me, and I was a ump and I didn't see it, it would have been like: "I didn't see that, sorry, nice try. take your kiddie games elsewhere"

its a shame because LSU had all the momentum at that point.

that is the part that really hurt was we were starting to rally a lil. Also the starting pitchers brother admitted that we got fricked by that call.

Bad call. I loved, however, how a lot of LSU fans were saying that cost the Tigers the game. Reminded me of when Gumps were saying that a botched pass interference call in 2004 cost the Tide a game which they lost 26-10.
