They chose to do it elsewhere, its the same as schools not hanging ANY ad banners in their stadium. Each school has its own marketing strategy.
well then, that seems dumb on LSU's part when we could have paid 1/10th the price on just a backlit ad board instead of doing it in video screen. dumb.

Just curious but has it ever crossed your mind that those "ads" paid for the board?
What is the point in spending all of that money for that scoreboard? To appease the sponsors or appease the fans?

I've gotta say that is absolutely and utterly ridiculous! Especially the additional little adverstisement in the MIDDLE Of the already shrunk actual replay screen! Why not just buy a great big billboard and stick it there with a little scoreboard underneath. It would have been no worse and a helluva lot cheaper. Wow. Just wow.
And I thought the "Adzillatron" we have at UT was bad. LSU's new scoreboard is really just a giant electronic billboard filled with ads that just so happens to have a video screen on it. After years of putting up with substandard video screens and a crappy PA system, LSU fans deserve better.

In the world of sports marketing, both. A sports entity's goal is to get fans to continue to come to games, sponsors to pay big money to advertise there and for the media to write good reviews. You have to please all three entities as much as possible. You will always have people angry, a prime example would be how our fans react over EVERYTHING, but overall, you please the ones that make you the most money first and so on.

UT doesnt advertise either.

I know its mind boggling this new thing they call business and marketing.
What is the "marketing" benefit to having static, basically permanent ads, on a $7 million HD video screen, which is designed for showing live action/replays?
Seems a total waste of technology to me. Maybe I'm crazy.

the thing is, fans that only go to home games are probably overjoyed that we have this GREAT scoreboard. but if they went to any other schools... bama, OM, MSU, Auburn., etc... they'd know that we're getting shafted.

fyi, the brand new hd jumbo tron UT just put in is the same way as ours. they have a huge scoreboard that has adds on both sides that make the picture not a whole lot bigger than before. it's not just us. those companies paid for the thing, so their names are gonna be on it. we don't have a stadium that can support a jumbotron like the one at texas.

I tell you what, I'm going to my first away game this weekend. I'll compare more then. But as someone who had a basic idea before then took sports marketing and had her ideas confirmed, I more than understand the concept.

"There is basic information on the south end zone scoreboard that is not available on the north end zone scoreboard. (I forget exactly what it was--maybe timeouts or down-and-distance"
they actually corrected this for the ULL game.
for the vandy game , timeouts werent listed, and the numbers were under the words (like down, to go), making them unreadable. even the score was hard to read
for the ull game, timeouts were on there, the scores were larger and on the sides,a nd the other info was bigger

I went to my first game in almost 3 seasons when the Tigers Played Vandy. I remarked to my cousin how busy the stadium seemed and I was reminded of a Casino more than anything.

also, is lsu the only school that subscribes to this super secret "business and marketing"? because you don't see near as much of this bullshite at other schools.
How many of those other schools are completely self-funded? The few that are have a larger alum base and gets more donations than LSU. We can't compete with Texas and Florida on that level, so we have to make it up in other ways, like ad revenue, to stay competitive.
We need a Boone Pickens.

Take down the ads and double the ticket prices.

No they weren't.

Yes, that’s an ad IN the replay.

What's up with that shite?
What's up with it is people are idiots. That's NOT an ad in the replay. It's stupid...don't get me wrong, but it's not an ad in the bottom left that seems to be blocking the replay. It reads something to the effect of TigervisionHD. It's the main Tigervision logo they shirnk down and plop there. no clue why...but it's not an ad.

Yeah, the only time I saw the Coke ad, and the block of adds on the right side gone, were for a couple of goofy intro type promos - never on actual replays.
