i'm not sure an lsu fan can adequately understand how intimidating TS really is. You almost have to be an outsider and to have heard horror stories of past visiting fans' experiences to get the full effect of walking into that place. you truly feel as though you just walked into a tiger's den. and then if your team happens to win, expect piss balloons and port-a-potties tipped over j/k

Especially intimidating considering RP is on the kickoff team.

Sorry, I just had to.

I was on the sideline for the Florida game and it was intense. Talk about getting you jacked up for a big game.

Tiger Stadium is commonly referred to as "Death Valley," due to its high level of cheering during games. The original nickname of "deaf valley" was applied to the stadium (distinguishing it from Clemson University's Memorial Stadium), but over the years was misunderstood for "death valley". During a nationally televised game against Auburn in 2003, ESPN recorded a noise level of 119 decibels at certain points in the game. During the October 6, 2007 game against the University of Florida, CBS recorded 129.8 decibels.

[edit] Testimonials

Despite being 14-1 at Tiger Stadium, famed Alabama head coach Bear Bryant once remarked that "Baton Rouge happens to be the worst place in the world for a visiting team. It's like being inside a drum."[2] In 2001, ESPN sideline reporter Adrian Karsten said, "Death Valley in Baton Rouge is the loudest stadium I've ever been in."[3] In 2002, Miami (Ohio) coach Terry Hoeppner said of Tiger Stadium, "That's as exciting an environment as you can have ... we had communication problems we haven't had at Michigan and Ohio State."[4] In 2003, ESPN's Chris Fowler called LSU his favorite game day experience.[5]

Survey after survey has concluded that Tiger Stadium is the most difficult place for a visiting team to play, including surveys by the College Football Association in 1987, The Sporting News in 1989, Gannett News Service in 1995, and Sport Magazine in 1998.[6] More recently, in 2007, ESPN named Tiger Stadium "the scariest place to play," saying that "Tiger Stadium is, by far, the loudest stadium in the country."[7]

There's no place like home.

I think I'll change my quote now. That is the most honest thing I've ever heard from an opposing fan and quite a compliment.

I've always wondered if other fans really believed Tiger Stadium was rowdy. I'm now at a point in my life where I can take trips to away games. There is nothing I'd like to do more than hit every SEC stadium so I can put quality info into a "who's got the best stadium" thread.

that list is an embarrassment if you've actually ever been to both Autzen and Tiger stadiums.

Buckeye06, you ever been to TS?

I've been to A&M, VaTech, and the whole SEC except Ark, Vandy, Ky, and SC. I will hit 'em all before I'm gone. To me, aside from LSU of course, Auburn has been the most intimidating. I have been 3 times, and was there for the interception game. When Aub picked off the one to take the lead, I've never heard it louder outside of TS.

I sat next to some VaTech fans last year. On the first drive they were talking trash, saying their stadium was louder, etc. I corrected them real fast, stating I had been Blacksburg. Somewhere in the middle of the 2nd qtr, the guy leaned over and told me this was the most awesome thing he had ever witnessed.

TS rules! And Buckeye06, I didn't even read your link. But if it has TS anywhere other than 1, it's wrong, and the wrong people voted, picked, chose, etc.

Yeah, I remember that. Awesome.

Best mascot activity before a game, Chief Osciola (sp??) throwing down the lit spear to declare war.

And the dotting of the i at Oh St is awesome too. I'm glad I got to witness it at least once in my life..followed by an LSU win.

The Swamp is the scariest place I've ever watched a game. The stadium is smaller than Tiger stadium but they pack you in like sardines there. I can't honestly say whether it's louder than Tiger stadium or not because it's hard to judge when you are one of the people contributing to the noise level. Well yes I can, TS seems to be louder. When the goal posts came down in 2000 (both times) was loud. When Flynn hit Byrd on Oct. 20th it was the loudest and most electric atmosphere I've ever been witness to. That includes some world cup qualifiers in Africa.

I also know is, The Swamp is very loud, very packed, and the paint is nauseating.

Auburn pisses me off to no end when it comes to game day at TS. Their band (cudos to them) has completely scripted the TS music and band. They attempt to squash any momentum the crowd works up.

It's a good play on their part, phuckers.

The Swamp is the scariest place I've been OUTSIDE the stadium. Yeah, it's loud and you're packed in like sardines. But outside you better watch your back.

I'm only missing S. Carolina out of the 12...

UF got pretty loud...also helped because I was one row from the field on the 40...

Auburn before the game when they release the eagle gets loud...

other than that...nothing compares but UF this year was absurd...

As much as I once hated Auburn they are the fanbase I most connect with and enjoy now. Win or lose the AU/LSU game lately, you know your team was involved in an epic battle.

I'm following the Bayou Bengals to Opelika this year.

I agree 100%. Of all the SEC teams and fans, I connect with Auburn the best too. We've had some epic battles with them. It's a great rivalry. They have a good tailgating atmosphere. And I think there is a mutual respect there for both sides. We may all have to dig down deep to find it, but I believe it's there, more so than any other SEC team.

Couldn't our band do the same when they go there? I believe the full band is making the trip to Auburn this fall.
