Riddle me this Dr. Dumbfrick, what does it harm for the NCAA to announce a postponement or suspension rather than an immediate cancellation?

Just because many people that are infected recover doesn’t mean it isn’t serious and potentially fatal for others.
And the exact same thing can be said about Influenza. The reality is that the panic has had a direct impact on not only the global economy, but directly on our health care system and its ability to respond to those who truly need our help.
This whole thing is largely fueled by our current litigious, social network-driven society where draconian actions are often taken due to the fear of the public backlash for being seen as "not doing enough", even when the correct approach should be common sense and patience.

There’s a reason the blue checks are flooding this place right now. These are people who almost never post here yet they’re here today spreading panic and reinforcing those talking points.

Are you going to keep saying that when hundreds of thousands of people lose their livelihoods? When 12000 people die, who average 75 yrs old, with other complications, will the billions of dollars lost be worth it? Apparently for SARS it wasn't, apparently for flu, it isn't, apparently for every other pandemic in modern history it wasn't. Tell me why this one is different. Because you have a feeling?

The death rate for Covid 19 is at least 10 times higher. It’s exponentially more contagious.
Both of these are stated as facts. Based on the rest of what you had to say, I believe that you are smarter than that. We do not have a sample size large enough or reliable enough (consider the source) to state that "the mortality rates are 10 times higher", and it is irresponsible for anyone in a position of authority to throw that out there as fact, which some have.
While I do believe that this is overkill and that the impact of these measures may cause more harm than the virus itself, there is merit to the rest of your argument. It the measures put into place are effective in halting the spread of the virus, ultimately we may see a quicker return to normalcy for both the health of our citizens and our economy which, in turn, also impacts the well-being of our citizens.

This is all about trying to make Trump's economy look bad. Bankrupting people who have businesses and farms. Making everyone depend on the communists government the Democrats are putting in place.
Uggghhh. Dems engineered a bio-weapon to destroy a global economy, kill scores of people, disgrace Trump, beat him in the election, and in-turn inherit a dumpster fire. Makes sense

Not what he’s saying but there’s a giant pile of straw man arguments in this thread so we’ll just throw yours in with the rest.

Nah, they are simply propping up an old guy with dementia (Biden, to be clear) to receive the nomination so that they can add Hillary to the ticket as his running mate and have her finally take over as President when it becomes clear that he is not mentally competent to hold office.
Sorry, I just realized that I am NOT on Poli or OT board. Guess this is what happens when all sports are suspended!

I remember the H1N1. We didn’t see near the hysteria.. not even remotely close. and 4,000 Americans were killed, 575,000 worldwide many of which were kids.. and they had major vaccine delays. there were like 100 Americans die in a 5 day period which is why Obama declared a national emergency that October 23 which was during the AL and NLCS. Games went on .. and the World Series was played. The Saints were in the midst of their super bowl run. The N1H1 didn’t really die down til the winter of 2010. Americans after about 5 days of their culture and passions stolen will get old. I think this will be completely overblown and hopefully things will get back to some since of normalcy within 2 weeks and will have ball games being played.

You know the blue checks are celebrating when they’ve strayed so far from the OT and poli board that they’re here. These warped people are actually taking a victory lap for the virus.

More people have died of the flu this year than the covoid-19.
May be true, but dangerously misleading. For example, there have been about 75 flu deaths in Washington in the past 5 months of the flu season. By comparison there have been almost 30 covid-19 deaths in Washington in the past 2 weeks. One of the many dangerous, misleading messages from our deranged President.

I get what your trying to say but it’s not a viable comparison. You’re comparing a virus that requires contact in order to spread and has the potential to mutate and infect millions as contact continues to be made to 35k car deaths that can’t trigger a mass growth and chain reaction. Again not viable. What we do know is that the virus requires contact in order to spread so I get why the plan is to minimize contact to slow the spread of the virus to at least buy time to further understand what we’re dealing with. I didn’t understand the significance or appreciate the impact a virus can have on a population until my wife who is a medical professional educated me on it. I get it now and I understand the responses/strategy that many have taken/implemented to slow the spread down.
