Typo, was supposed to be 30. Just checked...actually 31. So 40% of the deaths in 10% of the time.

Yep, and 23 of them were residents from a single critical care geriatric facility.

I agree with this. This virus, unfortunately, has been politicized during an election year and responses to it will tend to be more "political" than rational. Both sides of the political spectrum have to appear as though they are doing something to save us from the effects of this virus.

One of the primary reasons for the sports world shutting down is that it gives the United States a ten day head start from becoming like Italy. This is very important if you wish to limit the spread and "flatten" the growth curve a little to buy more time for a cure or treatment that will work. Italy has been forced into a situation where there aren't enough beds to house the sick. They are literally making life and death decisions as patients with pre-existing complications are left to die in favor of healthier patients who have a better chance of survival.

The NCAA, NBA, MLB, NHL, XFL are doing the right thing by removing themselves completely as an issue while this nation attempts to stem the tide of the coronavirus. As a huge basketball fan, I too am disappointed that this has happened but when looking at the big picture, I understand why it happened and can accept it knowing it is in the best interest of helping this nation FOCUS ALL OF IT'S EFFORTS on defeating this virus.

The problem with Italy is that it’s President, in the spirit of identity politics virtue signaling, instead of closing its borders told the public to “go out and hug a Chinese person” then after they had it they went against expert advice and corralled people together causing a huge spread.

So I don’t think we should compare how we were preparing to what Italy did. Other than that I agree with what you’re saying. I do think the right move was suspension and not cancellation like the NCAA but again this decision isn’t totally health related.

Madking, you’re making some good points and I agree with your recommendations.

But do you have to be such a belligerent arse about it?

More people have died of the flu this year than the covoid-19. This is purely propaganda from the media making this out to be as big as ebola. its crazy. Yes we need to take precautions but they are slowly shutting down all daily life because of something that doesn't even have as high of a death rate than the flu.

covoid-19

What is this thing? co-void down the toilet or what?

This is the dumb. COVID-19 infection is a new disease which we do not know much about it. There is no vaccine available to prevent it, no specific drugs to treat infected patients only supportive treatments, and that's why the higher up leaders have to take preemptive decisions like cancelling crowd gathering events. If you think it's crazy then go to Italy now to see how you would feel about COID-19. Better to be safe than sorry, baws.

I can’t imagine how bad it would be if a real hyper virulent outbreak happened

This is a pretty hyper virulent outbreak. In 3 months it's covered the globe and the outbreak hasn't even peaked in Europe (Italy is already shut down and their Healthcare system has people in beds in hallways without oxygen, and they're picking the best option out of 3 or 4 to give a bed to.) They aren't even peaking and it's that bad there. They're shutting everything down because they don't want the healthcare systems to be overrun in the United States. The best thing to do is self quarantine and just get out to get essential items like food and necessities to survive. The outbreak was slowed down some to start but it's moving on very quickly now. I don't know what could be considered more "hyper virulent" than this. I don't know why people are acting like this is the flu. It isn't, although it has some similar symptoms. I Know it sucks that sporting events have been shut down, but they've only done this so the virus won't be passed around at an incredible rate and overburden hospitals.

3 types of people making the decisions:
1) This type, even though, possibly over reacting is genuinely concerned and are deciding based on rate of spreading, etc of the virus. Can not fault them.

2) Old white men in power wanting to protect their jobs. This group ran to the attorneys first to cover their arse in case something went wrong and the attorneys told them to get over to the most cautious side just in case.

3) this group is lurking in the background and doing everything to tank the economy. they will come out in force at election time conveniently forgetting that they aided in the decline and the why. They will be aided by sympathetic news media.

Practice run for government control over every aspect of our lives.
The virus is real & precautions must be taken.
But the fascists see it as an opportunity to create panic, chaos & fear.
Sadly most are just sheeple who blindly believe government is their god who makes them feel safe.
Postpone everything 4 weeks & reevaluate.
Stop panicking people. Protect yourself, if symptomatic call your doc.
It's not that hard really.

It was done from panic.
And a desire to destroy as much of the economy as possible.
