Across the globe this virus has killed people over 50 dis-proportionally. What's your point?

Finally some reason

They are saying “don’t forget about the flu” not that this isn’t far worse. The mode of transmission are not the same.

You are a typical smarmy liberal who thinks you are smarter than everyone else. Here are the facts. I’m sure you can find a way to spin this, but it puts things into perspective and shows that many are hyping this beyond all sense of proportion.

I’m not a liberal. I voted for Trump, though not in the primary (largely because he is not a conservative).

Everything in that graphic is accurate. Just as the mortality rate is accurate. There’s nothing to spin, it’s mortality rate is exponentially greater than H1N1 and is a global pandemic that is not subsiding outside of China (if you believe China). What’s your point?

I knew it. If you can’t see the point I can’t help you. But for everyone else with a brain, it shows that if you are an average person walking the earth, you have less to fear from this Coronavirus than from most other things you will experience in your everyday life. Again, it’s all about perspective, but you seem incapable of having any.

Yes, it’s absolutely nuts. Acting like it’s a tough decision to cancel everything....

The tough decision would be for someone to stand up to this craziness. Like out of a fiction novel.

The majority of people on this board would probably have little problem with the corona virus.

That said, every single person on this board had an elderly parent or grand parent or friend who just had chemo who might die or suffer irreversible lung damage from this virus.

People who downplay the risk of the virus are those most likely to spread it unintentionally to a vulnerable friend or family member.

We are all in this together. I love my LSU baseball games. But they are just games and we all have to make sacrifices.

I am sure if you think about it you have a friend or family member who either has cancer, heart problems or is really old. You need to make sure you dont get sick so they dont.

They are saying as many as 50% of the population will get corona. Lets say its just 5%. That's about 20 million people in the US. 2% of that is 400,000 people dead.

I hope those who are saying the virus wont kill so many are right. That doesn't mean the ones making better safe than sorry decisions are wrong.

I agree, totally. This hysteria is over the top. We didn’t see a reaction like this when we had the Ebola scare a couple of years ago and that was much more deadly...

There were 11 Ebola cases in the US.

ETA: 7 of those were medical transfers from other nations.

We knew much more about how Ebola spread, what it did, etc. This is a novel virus, thus there is so much we still don't know...not to mention the additional blind spots from the US testing lag (which should improve soon). Prudence dictates a lot of this.

Where are you getting your U.S. infection rate figures? In China, there are 80,000 cases out of a population of 1.44 billion - that is an infection rate of 0.0057%. In Italy, there are 10,000 cases out of a population of 61 million, an infection rate of 0.0164%. Those are vastly lower than your 5% rate.
