He’d be a 1st round pick. That’s the logic right?
That would be before next season begins.

If so, why hasn’t any of Bama’s 2021 projected 1st round players have opted out? Why is it only LSU losing players?
But maybe Saban and Dabo are better at their jobs? I dunno. There's lots of possibilities.
I just think the longer-term trend is fairly obvious. Somewhat surprising it's taken this long. I guess you usually have the attraction of being a big-time college athlete. However, Karen has pretty much choked the fun aspects of out of this from the perspective of the athletes this year.

Why wait? He could get hurt this season or next. Sot both.
His body of work says he’s a 1st rounder. This is how this works right?

Hopefully the NFL will crash and burn like the NBA! Karmas a bitch!!

They need to self-insure and create an insurance pool that pays more and pays more easily when a player slated to get drafted is injured.

Couldn’t agree more, Chase has nothing to prove and Shelvin has to lose some lbs and test well. Both of these guys will be drafted high and get paid to workout until the combine and draft, not really hard to comprehend.

Because other schools didn't have a perfect 15-0 season with the best team of all time. It probably seems like like the risk-to-reward ratio isn't very good to some of these guys to play a short, messed up season in empty stadiums when they had the ultimate season last year and this year won't compare to that.
So you’re saying other kids have something to prove? I would suggest that Shelvin does and to a lesser degree, Chase too. Chase had the best QB in college history. Perhaps he could help elevate his new QB.

All I can think now is that this will probably be Derek Stingley Jr’s last year. This will open up a can of worms in college football. This opting out crap needs to be stopped. If covid isn’t the reason these kids are opting out then why shouldn’t I assume that this will happen every year now.
I have two girls who are being affected by COVID. There are constant conversations about how it is so different now. One will be graduating next year and the other has already missed out on graduation, prom, and at least the first part of her freshman year in college (all altered through cancellation and going virtual). It is part of the problem. These guys may simply want to move on since they already planned on declaring after this season anyway. This was always going to be a challenge. Again, it didn't help having an outbreak among the o-line which points to lack of focus.
If O is saying protect the team and a group goes and causes a significant disruption in practice by not being available to prepare for the season for up to 10 days, other teammates can see that. They can see they are not as focused and locked-in. I believe these guys wanted to make another run initially, but the outbreak could have caused them to re-evaluate how safe things were and how serious their teammates were in helping to maintain a safer environment.

This is really upsetting
Between the BLM mess and pro athletes/teams/franchises (and even LSU as a university) feeling the need to support it.. Combined with CoVID.. Sports has really lost it's pull on me. I really hate to see these "opt outs" but this year is going to be an exhibition at best (if it even gets played). Maybe there will be subsequent years that are like a return to normalcy, but there is a real shift happening in this country. The college football we all used to love may be a thing of the past.

Will be interesting to see the NFL’s revenue stream in the near future. So many fans are “opting out“ too.

bullshite.
Explain those entering the transfer portal. The pressure of talented freshman who haven’t played a down? Get real.
I think LSU had 13 or more players enter the transfter portal just in its first two years in 2018 and 2019, so players entering the portal (and some talented ones) is nothing new.

I'm saying I think they are looking at the overall picture of the season with only 10 games, some leagues opting out, playing in empty or near-empty stadiums and weighing the risk vs. the rewards and feeling like it's not worth it.
I do think there would have been a better chance of some of these guys playing had we not won an SEC Title, a national title and gone undefeated. They had the best experience possible. All three had really good seasons too (Vincent went from starting off bad to making fantastic plays at the end of the season). Yes, I wish Chase would play and help to prove that LSU is not a 1-title-wonder, but in his eyes, he probably came to the decision that the risk of doing that with the way things are right now isn't worth it (I don't think the O-line coming down with COVID helped). He knows he is a top 10 pick and it doesn't matter who his QB was.
Vincent has world-class speed and finished the 2019 season on a high note. I think he could have improved his stock even more, but with his speed, he is a lock for decent pick. Shlevin is the one who could lose the most being projected as a late 1st round to 2nd round pick since he has had major weight issues in between seasons. Without the right supervision and motivation, he could really hurt his stock. But all 3 of those guys are sure draft picks of today.

The overreaction is filling these kids heads with the worst possible and rarest side effects of an inevitable virus. Fear is a helluva weapon. Ready and willing to give it all up in the name of what? Strep can cause Rheumatic Fever and destroy heart valves. Do we worry. West nile can wreak neurologic havoc on a healthy kid. Do we stay inside to avoid mosquitoes. Lyme disease can be completeky debilitating and hard to ever overcome. Do we not go in the woods? What is the incidence of myocarditiswitb CV in young people? Anyone know or we just going on handful of outlier anectdotal cases? Shameful what pushing fear has done to take away from young peoples lives. Cant get it back.

Im offering a solution that gets kids paid and keeps some integrity in CFB. FU

Covid ain’t the reason these particular kids are opting out.
But it is the reason half the country ain’t playing anyway. Which absolutely plays into that decision.
If the guys you’re competing with for a draft slot are playing, then bet your arse you will too.
Posted on 8/31/20 at 9:11 pm to DhanTigers212
The only way to deter the opting out would be for these guys slipping in the draft because teams question their work ethic.
Guys leaving early and not getting drafted seemed to slow down juniors leaving early

Saban has really turned up the pressure the last couple of years to get kids to stay.
He uses his NFL connections to convince kids that his information about their respective draft positions is better than what they can learn elsewhere, and that their position in the draft can possibly slip.
He also started a new tactic a couple years ago. You recall he was always about "team, team, team" but that didn't appear to resonate with players considering the draft.
A couple years ago, in an about face, he started using the phrase "creating value" (meaning money) and how players can "create value for themselves" by staying another year. Now the phrase spills out of his mouth constantly.
It's worked. Players are staying longer. They also haven't won championships the last two years. Maybe the players are too interested in "creating value for themselves."

Why? In a virtually meaningless year, we gain hella experience.

This sucks, prefer to cancel season than to see us lose 3-4 games (affects recruiting)...
They lost 3-5 games every year since 2011. Somehow they were able to recruit enough good players to go 15-0, have 14 drafted, and have others opt out to prep for the draft bc of their talent. I doubt any recruit will remember the championship last year or see any of these guys playing in the nfl. Hopefully they will be ok but seems doubtful.
