What’s interesting is I thjnk UGA’s success is bringing back more of a power spread.
Saban has to miss running the ball, and big 2 TE sets.
And that’s what Kelly is about.
If you can recruit versatile WR who can block and catch your can do so many thinks in the pass game while still running the ball down people’s throats

Is this really true? I used to say the same things but when I look back at the statistics and rankings this is what I see. Total Defense and Scoring Defense. only year better was 2012. Was 2015 just a bad year for defenses or did everyone just miss the boat on the assessment of Steele?
This isn’t even remotely accurate.
LSU gave up 24.3 PPG in 2015. Good for 41st.
LSU gave up 347.2 YPG in 2015. Good for 25th.
You’re looking at the numbers for 2014, or that graphic is just wrong.

That 2015 roster had a lot to do with it. Go look at the players drafted, and the players still in the NFL. The depth at LB and DB was really unreal. Two and three deep at a number of positions .

I thought the LSU offense is the Denbrock offense with a Brian Kelly emphasis on TE usage?

LSU offense under Dembrock finished #25 in total offense, in 2021 with Peetz we finished #80.
I have confidence that Kelly knows what the hell he is doing and what coaches to hire.
Our DC House was a Broyles canadite in year one.

Look at what UGA, The Chiefs in the NFL, and a number of NFL teams do with the TE. The usage of 1, 2 or 3 TE’s in a formation, keeps the defense from substituting players. From those sets, you can run or pass creating mismatches. In the time Kelly was at ND he had 8 TE’s drafted, that same timeframe, LSU had one Foster Moreau. Up till last year, 2019 was the only other time a TE was truly used within the offense. If you follow Denbrocks offense, you can see in passing plays, man coverage on the TE is often a mismatch. We took a three star TE, and made him what Kelly wants. The 5 star that went to aTm had like 3 catches for 11 yards.
Kelly brought in a coach Terry Malone.
Originally going to the New England Patriots, Malone was hired away by Sean Payton, and became a part of his coaching staff in 2006 and helped the Saints capture their lone Super Bowl title in 2009.

Neither Rees or Steele will have full autonomy at Bama.
For Rees, this is a great career move. Get a year or two under one of the best and get some much needed different perspective on how to continue preparing yourself to be a head coach. He's learned plenty from CBK already. I would say this is a no-brainer for him.
As for Steele, it looks like he's helping himself out with his Alabama retirement, which is a good deal for him. The Alabama RSA is one of the best in the country.
Only real question is whether they are ready for the scrutiny they will get from Saban and the Bama fanbase.

He’ll be 65 next month, I wonder if he’ll get to enjoy it sometime.

I created the graphic based on what I got off the NCAA website. Looking at what they show, I now wonder if they have a glitch in their system. This is what gives me pause
