I will help so that all you have to do is fill in the blank..

"Today, we have suspended Coach Lane Kiffin for violation of SEC rule __________________."

He has already given you the language. It isn’t a “rule”, it is the “integrity of the conference”. It’s right there for all to see.

“Lack of institutional control” is not a term thrown around lightly or accidentally.

quote:

"The SEC and its member universities have the right to establish, through agreed-upon governance procedures, the rules under which they voluntarily compete and to expect those rules to be followed," the SEC said in a statement. "A commitment to those rules, and to the core principles of the Southeastern Conference, is an essential element of SEC membership.

"Today's filing is necessary to defend that right and preserve the Conference's ability to govern competition among its members."

quote:

The amended complaint said Kiffin reiterated his objections to the SEC's professionalism rules in his postgame comments.

The SEC alleges that Kiffin's statements "stand in sharp contrast to the silence by the President and Athletic Director of LSU" and that "they confirm the lack of institutional control over the athletics program at LSU that is required by Article 6 of the SEC Constitution and by the remaining provisions of the Constitution and Bylaws."

I’m not saying it’s right, it’s the absolute contrary.

But you and so many others focusing on “the rule” just cannot see the big picture that the SEC is drawing.

Another poster said the SEC can’t fire a state employee. Correct. But they can prevent LSU from competing this year if LSU doesn’t do it “of their own volition” to re-establish “institutional control” and to protect the integrity of the conference.

SEC is going to give an ultimatum that LSU fire or give Lane (and Wade) a lengthy suspension, or face removal.

That basically means LSU can't trust the SEC in its role.

You've effectively already been kicked out.

They still must function within their own bylaws which state how a coach can be suspended. The coach must violate a NCAA or SEC rule. That is directly from the SEC Bylaws.

In fact, the entire lawsuit by the SEC is based on the SEC being "able to enforce its rules."

They can hate Lane and not like what he is doing, but if they are going to follow the very rules that they are saying they want to enforce, then they must find a rule he has broken if they want to suspend him.

Otherwise, they are going to be back in court.

They can give an ultimatum, I’d tell them to kick rocks. LSU can leave and go dominate the ACC and be in the playoffs every year and maintain the brand they already have.

Lack of institutional control. That’s a mighty big bucket.

Oh they are going to court. They just don’t care.

Not this year they can’t.

Does everyone understand the blow that LSU being off the board for the rest of the season would impact the long term future of the program??

We would lose every player and most coaches and have to start from scratch next year at the earliest, assuming we can get placement in a conference and schedule a full slate of games in less than a year, which Im not convinced we can.

We could be self imposing a multiple year pause on athletics. I’m not sure we would ever recover.

The SEC Bylaws put this on the CEO of the school, not the coach.

Will be hard to argue lack of institutional control is occurring when we voted for the professional rule and then followed it.

I understand that. My point is that the threat of “LOIC” gives a lot of motivation for LSU to make a move on their own.

And I find it hard to believe that their legal team won’t find some way to justifying at least a suspension of Kiffin when they directly pointed to his conduct as the catalyst for the LOIC claim.

I’m not saying it’s right or that it would stand up in court. I’m just talking about tomorrow and what we may be looking at when that meeting ends.

Stop thinking! You're not good at it!

Agreed. They’ll try to get LK fired, suspended, or at least some other penalty for LSU.
Otherwise, the powers that be in the SEC look feckless, corrupt, and stupid going full nuclear only to drop the whole thing. They have to try to do something, if only to save face. If not, it would undermine their credibility and authority.
