This thread delivers. It's interesting to see what different posters pick as the game that defines Miles. Like a couple of other recent threads, I think the different choices say more about the individual posters than about Miles.

The games that come to mind for me are the time he went for it over and over on 4th down, the behind the back flip from he holder to the kicker and the heaving it into the end zone in a pretty iffy time-left scenario when a FG would have won it (if made).

This will make his ab 28th "coach defining" game.

I suspect we continue to grow now and set the table for an unbelievable run for the rest of the season. Would not surprise me for us to lose but play well and just come up a bit short and get hungry.

LSU could pull it off and upset Auburn but tough for our freshmen on the road...cannot wait...

so, if he had beat the n.c. the total would be 105=19.
and you would still be a fat bastard?

27-0 vs rent a wins

27-2 vs non conference power 5 or SEC w/ a losing record

17-2 versus SEC teams that were 7-5 or 6-6.

Basically 71/99 wins were gonna happen for any coach worth a shite. Les is a good coach and a good fit at LSU, but he was defined on 1/9.

Honestly, unless we play Bama/Saban in another title match, that game will define him unless he wins another title at LSU. Fair or unfair it is the life of a HC in the SEC. Win or walk. I believe we have a bright future and believe we will win today, but this game won't define him.

Nope! Next year will define Miles. He took over a program at the top. He has maintained that level until now. Other programs have grown and now match or have surpassed us. Next season will tell if he has regained that supremacy or still is floundering.

only 1 west title in 7 years after this year. that's underachieving with the talent and facilities and money he is being paid.

If Les is underachieving, then there are a whole bunch of coaches over paid. I mean who has done better than Miles in the last 7 years and is still at their school?
If he's underachieving , I cant wait until he just does a regular job.

Only if LSU wins on a gamble, or loses on clock mismanagement.

I think this game will define LSU as a team this year though. We'll know how good or bad they are after today.

With all due respect, the same thing was said in the aftermath of Bama in '10, then completely spun the other way against Bama in the NC game in '11. Let's just say Les is hard to pigeonhole.

Really top of what?

I didnt realize getting beat by Iowa in the Capital One bowl means you have your program at the very top.

Beating OU 2 out of 3 and going bowling 3 years in a row at Okie St. simple stuff as well. Im not understanding why the the 40 yr old coach up there isnt winning a title every year after being set up that well 10 yrs ago. How does he still have a job?

You mean all the games he has stubbornly run the ball into a stacked box with a 2 TE set and only 1 WR hasn't defined him?

i see this is the new mantra everyone is clinging to

Not saying you are right, but lets say you are...how is what you referenced above any different than any other SEC power team??? Well, other than some of those power SEC teams cant even say they won all their "rent a wins" games, can they... or they are 27-2 vs. SEC with a losing record.

Les is a good coach

I would add...who happens to lead ALL BCS teams and SEC teams in wins since 05.

Miles, like him or not, is a Top 5 coach in college football in wins, SEC titles, SECW titles, and BCSNG appearances since 05. If you want to think that's only "a good coach" worthy, knock yourself out. I think most reasonable, no agenda fans would label it a tad higher.

You can throw out stats all you want, but there's a segment of our fanbase that has disliked Miles from day 1 and that will literally never change, no matter how much you point to his overwhelming successes and no matter how he finishes his career at LSU. I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride, and I suggest you do the same.

Exactly... Great post. Miles has shite the bed too many times to be called a great coach. I will say he is a great recruiter but LSU recruits well. Miles has proven time and time again, his teams are fundamentally sound but the gameday coaching and the lack of discipline he runs the program with is horrible...

blows my mind you would take the time to tally those stats. What a complete fkn tool you are....to downplay his record here is a joke. Why don't you figure out all the wins for your god, Saban?
