Jay relies on analytics to a fault.
if every decision is made by analytics, you really don't need a highly paid coach to make any decisions. Just get some intern to work the computer.

Now sure, in all sports, it's sometimes wise to play the statistical odds, based on analytics. But a bigger part of in-game decisions should be based on what you see with your eyes and feel in your gut, not just raw computer analytic output.

Can down vote all you want but I’d be interested to hear an opinion otherwise

The combo of Noot/Shores pitched well in their last outing against a much better team (Ole Miss). It wasn't illogical to go that route. I'm sure the thinking was LSU was playing a 4 seed who was on the very back end of their pitching going into their 4th game in 3 days. Thus, Jay had confidence LSU would be able to score enough runs to compensate for the drop-off from Anderson/Eyanson. IF they couldn't (and they didn't), then he still has his two best bullpen arms fully available for an elimination game.

It would be a more nerve-racking situation if Anderson, Eyanson, Cowan and Evens were all done heading into an elimination game tonight.

The pitching sucked last night. But the LSU bats sucked worse. 4 runs against the back end of a bad team's staff isn't going to cut it, and it may not have won the game even if Jay went with an Evans/Cowan combo.

All this. You pitch Noot & Shores assuming you will score 8-9 runs at least. Then you go to Cowan/Evans to close the door in the 7th.

From starting Noot to the relievers that came in immediately after. I think Jay was hoping he could get through tonight and save Evans and Cowan if he needed. Unfortunately he’s going to need it.

He wanted to have the option on how to use Evans. That necessitated a Noot start. I agreed with it.

Jay went straight to Shores. That’s not a guy playing for tomorrow.

When he went to Cooper Williams that was a sign he wasn’t going to pitch his best without a lead.

No one is saying burn them, one has to step up. If no one steps up then all pitch counts are low and it’s Johnny whole staff for today. Which it is anyway, so try to win the game and not walk a dozen.
