Noot/Shores had been pitching well
But once you’re down you can’t go to Evans/Cowan until you’re winning

Noot has nowhere near the body of work to justify starting him in a regional elimination game tonight. That was a questionably decision that totally backfired. Shores at least has body of work but it's not great.
The smart, and safe decision for Jay would have been to go with Evans and Cowan tonight. Jay overthought his way into a bad loss.

Starting Noot was a reasonable decision
Agree.
And I thought Shores was absolutely going to shove it up their arse the way he looked in the 2nd, but when he came out for the 3rd he quit throwing strikes and that began the death spiral

Shores has all the physical tools but mentally he just doesn’t have it. If he feels like he’s getting squeezed or gives up a couple of hits, he melts and completely loses the zone.

Noot and Sbores held an Ole Miss offense that is going insane in their regional and has been very good all year to 3 runs on 4 hits. I have a feeling Jay was expecting that or better vs a weaker opponent in the Box. He obviously didn’t get anything close to it and it’s on the pitchers for not being mentally tougher, especially Shores. Noot gave up the HR, but it was Shores who lost it and walked the bases loaded and killed us.
Now his decisions after that- Yes, Jay was definitely trying to save arms for tomorrow pitching Williams, Mayers and Rizy after them.

He had been dealing with this better as a reliever until tonight, but this was the knock on him as a starter. Once it started downhill, he was toast.

Hopefully tonight was a combo of weak pitching from us and really good batting from LR. Equalizer tomorrow? Dear god I hope so…

Our worst should have been able to handle this team.
That’s just not true. But I would have expected Noot/Shores to hold them to 5 or 6, and I expected our lineup to score at least 10 against their game four pitching.

We just lack consistency at the plate. We have too many holes to hide in this lineup, they just keep killing any opportunity to score. Jones needs HR’s more than he needs a win.

This. We need to keep the bases empty when Cano is at bat. The guy was hitting about .250 all year and suddenly becomes Ohtani in this regional.

Have you not watched Evans and Cowan over the last few weeks? Shores and Noot have been the better pitchers. Posting this tells me you haven't watched many games just looking at stats.

Jones being a major part
I've said all year we are an arm and a bat away. Losing Guidry really hurt us. As for the bats, man, I just don't know. We are kind of who we are at this point...scoring 4 or 5 runs seems to be the average of late. Seems like they are more confident when our two stud pitchers are on the mound....but when they are needed, the hitters fold like cheap tents.

That is pretty spot on, We stand a better chance in a Super where it is head up with our normal rotation. I just cannot get a feel for what Omaha would look like for the LSU team but I remain hopeful.

I suppose we also left our hitters, saving them until tomorrow?

If we get there, they HAVE to win the first two and stay out of the Loser’s Bracket. If they can manage that, then who knows.

I think he was saving them for later innings with a lead last night.

That's exactly what he thought

You’re not going to burn Evans or Cowan in the 2nd inning when Shores came in. After that it was just a matter of us never having the lead again.
Correct. I said the same thing last nite.

There's nothing cryptic about what he did yesterday, it was not a win or go home game for us, Jay didnt need to start or play our best arms available so we he tried to win it with our mid-tier arms. The offense never showed up beyond the 1st inning so it gave him zero reason to pitch Evans or Cowan knowing there was still 1 more game to go.
If we're up 5-1 in the 5th or 6th inning, you would have seen both Evans and Cowan probably.
The problem was we were down, and theres no reason to waste either of them when the offense hasnt showed up and we're down.
We now have evans and cowan against essentially their worst arms available none of which have any real long distance experience this season and if they decide to throw someone who has, it'll be someone who has thrown a lot of pitches the last few days. I would bet we see their friday night starter for at least an inning or two, despite him throwing 90 some pitches 3 days ago. This is UALR's season at this point and will pull out every stop imaginable even if it means potentially hurting someone's arm and pulling them way out of their normal rest. Teams like this can do that because they have no future beyond this level of baseball.
On the flip side I dont think you see Jay use Eyanson or Anderson tonight even in a short scenario because he knows the future those guys have ahead of them via MLB. I can MAYBE see Eyanson but I think it would have to be a pretty desperate situation for Jay to do that.
