You know what all this means to me? LSU is a college team. At most it can have a player for four years of play. It takes time to develop the talent. When a few of the high quality players leave early each year, it is difficult to develop and maintain a high quality team. It isn't rocket science. Talented underclassmen leaving early affects the ability of the program to field an experienced, quality team.

OP is correct. The avg fan thinks LSU has all the talent and still cant win.
They think Louisiana is Florida or Texas with the number of recruits and only has 1 major school.
They dont underdtand what per capita means and fail to realize even with a talented state it doesnt produce QB's anymore.
2012 and 2013 were a little light on the recruiting trail. But to say the coaches did a poor job those years makes the OPs point. And is a bit strong.
When u look around the rest of the SEC including Florida
the last 10 years you can realky see how well Miles has done.
Take away Heisman Qb's from anyone even close to LSU and it really gets clear.
Its diffcult to win it all and keeo up with Alabama when they have a Hall of fame coach as well.
Look at Ohio State last year or their NFL draft this year and they couldnt even win the Big 3?
They lost at home for all the marbles and their offense was completely shut down. They had an offensive coach with all that talent and excellent QB play.
That same team that won big
3 got embarrased by the team that Miles is struggling against with poor QB play.
Miles has done well and after the Ole Miss debacle it shoud be crystal clear how difficult this job is.
But im sure all the students and business leaders that post in here think maintaining a 3.8 or record growth each and every year is a piece of cake.

Did the wheels really fall off last year?
They definitely didn't "fall off". We did win 9 games.
However, LSU wasn't particularly competitive against a challenging SEC West.

I am sort of amazed people still look at it this way.
Recruiting rankings/*s are rankings of how they expect a player to perform going from high school to college football. Using this 3-5 years down the line for the nfl is insane.
Recruiting rankings try to rank recruits based off future potential.

Honestly I think the main thing we're seeing here is that 2012 was just a weak recruiting class, just like everyone said when it happened.
Yes, there have been a number of solid contributors - Kwon, Vadal, Danielle, Hawkins, Dural, and Debo to name a few. But it just wasn't that upper echelon we're used to. It happens.
Next year you'll probably see Tre White, Pocic, Beckwith, Fournette, Adams and others go very high, and everyone will feel good again.
ETA: 2013 wasn't great either, in retrospect - but 2014, 15 and 16 have been significantly better and more like what is needed to compete for championships. And the current staff should keep us there.

The #1 QB (Ole Miss commit) is from Shreveport, correct?

LSU simply doesn't recruit well enough to sustain draft losses and still field a team capable of competing for the SEC every year. we have to depend on returning juniors.

All this draft proves is Ohio St should have won it all and thus under achieved this year.

Do you think they are calling for Meyer's head up there?

No he's from Texas. Spent 1 year here then went out to Florida to finish.

Chavis, Stud and Haley fricked us.

Yep. A&M taking Chief was the best thing to happen to LSU - and to Miles. If they have a good season this year, it could end up extending Miles' LSU career by 5 years or more.

You can complain all you want, but we are a top program and have been since Saban righted the ship. There are schools like Wisconsin, TCU, USC west now, and countless others who wish they where we are. Winning consistently 9 + games a year isn't easy especially in the youngest conference. Ugly wins, yep but wins.

Yes the wheels came off last year. That is s bad sign to me. Lsu has been a great program for 10 years but the last three years has been underachieving .
And it may continue. Hopefully they figure it out this yr.

Our draft numbers are down because for once some top guys are staying. Next year will be different. Now if you want to talk about coaching & player development, that a different subject. Stud, Brick etc did not develop top recruits.
