There was obviously some major dysfunction going on behind the scenes

This defense wasn't elite last season but was much better than what we saw in 2023. We returned a lot of talent, definitely lost some guys but it wasn't like we lost 7 all SEC defenders to account for the extreme drop off.

Same coaching staff but they suddenly couldn't get anything right, the players also didn't seem to give 100% a lot of times. I mean they could barely tackle anyone in the bowl game.

Consider all of that with the reactions of the players to the firings and its clear that House and maybe the rest of the group did something that didn't sit well with the players sometime between 2022 and 2023. This defense actually got worse as the season went on.

Then you have Perkins tweeting about the rabbit getting the gun today, the same thing Ryan tweeted before he went into the portal for a few days. Just an assumption but is it possible Ryan went into the portal because he was done with this staff and decided to return after being assured that they were going to be fired?

Some major animosity was happening behind closed doors.

Had to be hell for Kelly keeping that together trying to get through the season.

Its almost impossible for our defense to be that bad.

Something crazy was going on.

Pretty sad that a safety was our best cover corner this year.

My guess is Kelly advised players to wait to make any decisions until after the bowl game to 1. show off their skills one last time for teams looking to bring them in and 2. to show your teammates / scouts that you finish what you started.

Then again, the recent recruiting signings also make me wonder what was told to guys like Reliford and McKinley. It's possible they just flipped because of Kelly/Frank but makes you feel like they were told about certain staff being let go or certain additions that would be coming.

Although I don't know how you trust a 17 year old to not put that on his social media immiedalty.

Perhaps the players didn't appreciate Cain being pushed out, all speculation though.

At any rate, Matt House didn't suddenly forget how to run a defense in one offseason and these players didn't suddenly go from average to trash tier.

We returned mostly Dline and Perkins, who's best playing around the D Line, and those guys ended up not having a Dline coach most of the season. Brooks was the only good player in the secondary that returned and he was gone most of the season. Don't have to dig much below the surface to see how it turned into a shitshow.

Nah, Denver is just a problem and Wingo knew changes were being made before he made his decision.

If they could have gotten the corners to stay, this year would have been much different. IMO.

I dont think House is terrible, but i don't think he was good enough to coach around the lack of CB talent and the loss of Lindsey. Leadership went to the NFL too.

"Dysfunctional" is the exact word that that I have used frequently on here to describe the LSU Defense!

Running off a well respected (by all accounts) D-Line coach and having his replacement go on season long medical leave a few weeks before the opener would be the more likely culprit.

Once you lose the confidence in your players, especially ones who may not be the best and NEED to be coached up and placed in the exact right position to succeed, it's impossible to come back barring some miracle. He wasn't able to pull off a miracle.

If they did, I hope it was football related and not the players getting all butt hurt over some woke bullshite like they did when Coach O was interviewed by Fox News.

LSU is BLMU, so it probably was football related. DEI in full effect!

Imagine being so twisted up in political angst that the firing of the architect of the worst defense in history has you wondering if it is somehow the liberals who are to blame for this development.

Enlighten me. Where would one look to determine if the firing of the coordinator of the worst defense in the SEC was somehow a bad thing, and even more amazingly, also linked to the nefarious efforts of the well known LSU BLM movement?
