“It was a play. It was a whole play. It was part of the whole deal,” quarterback Danny Etling said afterward. “I’m not going to tell you if I could’ve snapped the ball before or if I could’ve snapped it after, who could’ve got the ball. Everything is kind of hidden with our offense right now, and we’d like to keep it that way.”

quote:

No, players and coach Ed Orgeron say, you did not see the complete Canada offense during the Tigers’ 27-0 season-opening win over BYU on Saturday night in New Orleans. Pat of it — a big part — remains shrouded in secrecy.

There were no throws to offensive linemen, for instance, or a single shovel pass. Admittedly, 13th-ranked LSU (1-0) was vanilla, running the ball a whopping 57 times in a stat reminiscent to years past at this school. LSU passed the ball just seven times on its first 31 first-down attempts.

quote:

“All the first down passes, intermediate passes … there’s a lot of stuff he didn’t have to run, but had it in his call sheet. He gave me his call sheet. About like that,” Orgeron said, gesturing with his hands as if he were holding an object that ran from his head to his chest. “Might have used 10 percent of it.”

quote:

“There is a little bit more,” Etling smiled when asked the offense. “We found what plays we liked and found what plays worked and stuck with those. (We’ll) probably change it up again next week. It’s whatever the defense is going to give us and whatever we think is the best way to attack them. Tonight, we were able to run the ball however we wanted to, and we kept putting it down their throats.”

Just relax fellas, this is just the prelude. There is more to come.

No way man, no way. Clearly this team is exactly the same as the last few years. We suck! We're going to lose all the SEC games!

Thank you for posting this. LSU could have ran the ball every play and won easily. If we can win games like that every time we play average to below average teams then I'll take it. Once we play Bama they will have absolutely no idea whats coming.

This is something I agree with you on. I was more focused on HOW we played rather than how many points we scored. We were in control every second of the game. Team management was 100% and we consistently made 3-7 yards per play. The ball went into several hands and we stuck with what worked. This offense is new and its best to stick with the fundamentals when those work. There will be 5 weeks to practice for UF and, even then, we might not have to open up the playbook that much.

Look here, cfomonkeydick, I've had the misfortune of reading a bit of what tickles between your ears and have come to one firm conclusion: you are indeed a dumbass

Absolutely! It was refreshing to see such a focused LSU staff and team after so many years of pretty much the opposite.

Is this the first time an LSU team/coaching staff has actually admitted to having a secret playbook?

Last night was the epitome of "taking what the defense gives you."

We were getting 4-6 yards a carry every time against 6 in the box, and BYU never adjusted until we were at the goal line.

Add in the fact the BYU offense couldn't even cross midfield and it would have been foolish to run anything more elaborate.

quote:

We're going to do a great job of winning games, period. If we win 10-7, we talked to coach and that was what is important, we want to win. If we need to score more than that, we'll find a way to score more than that......Stats are overrated. Stats are funny to talk about when you need to have something good to say. It matters bout winning games. For me my job is to score enough points to win games, and that's what I'm going do, in leading our offense and leading our team.

What I got from that is that the jet sweep is a pre snap read.

It's almost like option

Some fans are idiots and it doesn't matter what LSU does, they will always complain! I was happy with what I saw, especially considering we had so many players suspended or not playing because of injury! I'm excited about what's ahead! Geaux Tigers!

The 479 yards last night was more than LSU had last season against:

Wisconsin
Jacksonville St
Auburn
Southern Miss
Miss St
Alabama
Florida
Louisville

They absolutely need to clean up the penalties and do better in the red zone, but it was the 1st game with a new OC and very different scheme. It was but no means perfect, but you can see the possibilities and how this offense will work.

Everyone outside of the LSU fan base seems to think LSU looks like a powerhouse. AP, ESPN, SI have all raved about LSU. 2 games next week are between teams ranked ahead of LSU. We likely enter the top 10 after next weekend.
