The Tale of Two Teams

Well come let me tell you,
the tale of two teams,
One best forgotten,
The other a dream,
They speak of hard work,
(Matters naught in the end,)
Only if you complete,
On a task you begin,

One ground down opponents,
To eke out a win,
By the breadth of a hair,
On their chinny chin chin,
The other left no question,
Just Who came to play,
Proved it all on the field,
Naught for pundits to say,

One would plod towards the red zone,
Just to kick it for three,
Other trusted the stars,
Gambled for victory,
And though both ended Victors,
At the end of the game,
One summoned up doubts,
One no doubters remained,

And Though both had a place,
Final race,
Starting line,
One ecstasy relived,
One just best left behind,
But no flood that can come,
And no hurricane wind,
Can take from us the glory,
The day that we WIN!

I don’t disagree. But this tale isn’t about what should’ve or could’ve happened.

Only what did.
And that’s the difference.

I like the cup.

Need to photoshop Woody's smiling face onto it.

Probably but I doubt it would've changed anything.

In the first game, he was 3 for 7 and 2 of the remaining 4 passes were completed to THE OTHER TEAM.

Doesn't mean he shouldn't have played in the natty but given how anemic the offense was in general against Bama (for...reasons) and Lee's earlier lack of success (to put it mildly) I see little reason to think LSU was going to beat Bama unless the defense had a pick six or scoop & score.

OP is correct. Burrow, Brady and the whole offense should be in the Louvre.

2011 is what it is.

I agree with you on the 1st part. But 2011 "is what it is" is somewhat hyperbolic. 2011 was a great team beating the blue bloods of that season. It just unfortunate that Miles did not know how to prepare that team for the 2nd round of Bama.

I like your poems even though some say they are cringe. This one though sounds like revisionist history. You say one team eeked out wins. 2011 lsu was crushing teams before 1/9. In fact I'm sure their margin of victory was greater than 2019 before the natty

Agreed. Also, we should have played Oklahoma St. instead of Bama (round 2). Watch the game again. Our kids were not motivated in any sense of the word.

I really wasn’t trying to denigrate the 2011 team so much as to paint a picture of how where you end up dictates how you are remembered.
It’s more a hindsight commentary on how under miles we were grinding down the field and settling, and in the end...well, you know.
Juxtaposed on how 2019, with Burrow and crew they made it just seem second nature.
But, if we hadn’t finished out like we did, in a resounding victory, it would only be another “what might have been.”

But when you put it all on the line, and WIN...well, that’s history. Nothing can take away that magic.
One team was playing not to lose, and lost in the end,

But 2019, they went for broke, they gave no quarter, and imposed their will.

Mettenberger was on the roster in 2011

No reason at all he shouldn't have had the opportunity to start

Don’t know, but I’d guess 2011 had the bigger margin of victories.

TBH, it was really 11/5 that stuck in my craw and that I was referring to.

I was erring on the side of brevity for this one and the ones that really mattered
