Vet school asked AD in the offseason if they could refrain from using fireworks near the tiger. AD said no.
Mike is nowhere in the stadium when the pyrotechnics are set off... he is long gone by that time. Don't know where you got that one. LSU urban myth.

Surely he must be hauled to vets office for his teeth to be cleaned/checked right?
And he must be trailered back to his habitat right?
Check his teeth early the morning of game day. Put him in his game day trailer to allow him to sleep off his meds. He's loaded and ready when game time arrives!
Mikes health/dental hygiene is being kept up to date.
He has a nice long nap while sleeping of his meds.
He's well rested and relaxed.
He's loaded in the trailer for the game.
Win win scenario

why not have the tiger leave before the fireworks go off?
no need for egos to get in the way of this. very simple solution

Go ahead and do some research.
I stand corrected, it's the difference of domestication apparently. I've had experience with big cats but I would consider them domesticated.

Borrow the tiger from the gas station across the river from baton rouge. I bet it's not a shirking prima donna.

Or the vets can quit acting like Mike is suffering from irreparable damage by sitting in the travel cage for a couple of hours.
I sure would like to have those vets lives. Apparently, in their own lives, they never are agitated by any thing, any where, any time. There lives are totally free on any aggravation.

Posted by JPLSU1981 Response from PR director Vet school: quote: Thank you for contacting us with your concerns about Mike VI. Let me first assure you that we understand how important tradition is to LSU fans, and many like yourself consider Mike’s presence on the field on game days to be a vital part of LSU’s pre-game festivities. That being said, we also know that Mike’s safety and well-being are also of paramount importance. Mike has not loaded into his trailer for any home games this season, instead preferring to remain in his enclosure. Dr. Baker and Mike’s veterinary student caretakers cannot and will not force him into his trailer, and he cannot be enticed into the trailer. Non-domestic animals are behaviorally different from domesticated animals. Though Mike was raised in captivity, he is still a non-domestic animal. Unlike most domesticated animals, tigers respond poorly if at all to coaxing with food or other treats. When something is out of the ordinary, such as on a game day, Mike becomes extremely cautious; thus, food treats are ineffective motivators. Mike will never be sedated or drugged in any way in order to make him go into the stadium, and to do so is illegal. Mike’s caretakers regularly load him into his trailer throughout the summer just to keep him used to it. During these practice loadings, he readily enters his trailer. He has only refused to load on game days. Many have asked what is different about game days, such that Mike prefers not to load. It’s always difficult to know what an animal is thinking but one obvious difference is the level of noise around his enclosure. Mike does not like loud noises, including music. Loud music is normally played in front of the PMAC on game days as part of the day’s entertainment. Mike’s caretakers suspect that the loud noises discourage him from loading. However, even on days when his caretakers attempt to load him before the music begins, he often refuses to load, suggesting that there may be other environmental factors of which his caretakers are not aware. Tigers are secretive, forest dwelling animals; people may live around them their entire lives and never see one simply because tigers prefer not to be seen. Because Mike is a very confident, interactive tiger raised by caring people, he does not mind the crowds themselves. In fact, he appears to prefer the company of people. Once in his trailer, Mike quickly relaxes, and his behavior on the field clearly indicates that he is not stressed. However, forcing Mike into his trailer could be stressful, and could cause him to react aggressively and break a tooth or cause other self-injury. Mike has an excellent personality. His caretakers want to do everything possible to preserve it, both for his health and for the safety of those who care for him. As LSU fans, we all want championship teams and a magnificent mascot. LSU won’t always win, and Mike may not always be present on the field, but neither of these things truly lessens the might of our university or the love fans feel for both. If we beat bama with Mike doing what he wants can we continue to let Mike do what he wants?
Posted on 11/7/14 at 10:23 am to Odinson
When we get a new mike, we need to get a new handler too.

Here's a thought, and it will be unpopular with some animal rights, folks. Through all of these discussions, the Vet School folks continually insist that Mike loads just fine every time they "practice."
Now, IF that is the case and it's true how about loading him late on a Friday night? Make him comfortable in there for the night, and voilá! Saturday morning he's already loaded in, ready for the short drive into the stadium.
While they're at it, how about re-doing some of the cage material so people can actually SEE him in the travel trailer?

After reading the essay about the reasons Mike will not load up, I'm convinced more than ever that Howard Hughes has been reincarnated as Mike the Tiger.
Mike I through V got their butts out there, but not this spoiled, eccentric, overly sensitive, millennial diva Tiger.
Damn just Damn

LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette says there's "no truth at all" to this rumor.

Can someone please go and observe what happens when they "supposedly" try to get mike to load up into the trailer? I'd really like to know what they are doing and if they are doing anything at all. It'd be nice to have this settled once and for all.
