re: The problem with the entire Walker Howard situation is this…

Howard committed to a situation and a program that materially changed when Daniels was brought in. So did Myles Brennan.
I don’t blame them for making decisions in their respective, perceived best interests just as I don’t blame Kelly for doing what he had to for the program.
We’re in a whole new world now. It’s time fans adapt.

Baw, Nuss runs circles around Manning or Holstein and will be way better when the dusts settles
Posted on 1/18/23 at 8:54 pm to TutHillTiger
I just hope we blitz the hell out of him if he ever gets in the game and blow his traitor arse up.
Going to Ole Piss is its own punishment.

Walker coming to LSU effectively ended any possibility of us getting Manning or Holstein.
There was no way that Manning was ever going to come to LSU. Never. Ever.

Good thing Tom Brady didn't let "the depth chart" affect his progress

If you are a star qb, not a fan, but a qb looking to get developed and playing time to build up quality film for NFL scouts and you are recruited by a school, the first question you will ask the coach is what does the depth chart look like and how do I fit into it. The coach explains this to you and your family so you understand what your progression looks like through your career on the depth chart.
Kelly did not come to LSU to intentionally tank seasons in order to groom a single QB. He came to win, to challenge UGA and Bama on equal footing. You beat those teams, you win national titles and you get fame, prestige, and a lot of money.
And your point about bringing in an outside QB that disrupted Howard's plan... nonsense. Daniels was always Howard's best scenario- Daniels starts 22 and 23, Howard takes over a solid program in 24 and (hopefully) makes 2 runs at the playoffs.
Nussmeier is the fly in the ointment. Howard underestimated the returning redshirt freshman-to-be severely; he probably thought they'd start at about equal footing. As it turns out, Nussmeier was good enough to start for a bowl-worthy team, and pushed Daniels (the guy who steered the team to the SEC West). We didn't see that coming as fans.
And then Nussmeier has apparently decided he likes it at LSU and will wait another season to pay his dues, instead of moving on and opening things up for Howard. We as fans CLEARLY didn't see that coming, either. People had him transferring and taking a starting job somewhere else by midseason.
This talk about 2nd-string reps... a "star" QB doesn't go to be the backup for 3 years. 2nd string is still the backup. And that's exactly what he saw, and tapped out.
Kelly seems to be aware of his team, and how to build it. He named Nuss as an Accountability Leader, a defacto team captain. I don't think he does that if he has doubts as to Nussmeier's commitment. And I don't think Nuss thinks about leaving now, when he's being elevated to a level of leadership.
Nuss is on pace to take the starting job when Campbell, Jones, Taylor and Perkins are all juniors- that's possibly 3-4 All Americans.
Howard was scripted in as the starter with this group, Nussmeier changed the dynamics.
I think it works out for LSU just great; instead of a possibly good QB really just getting his first taste of running the team, we're lining up to have a cocky, rocket-armed guy with a chip on his shoulder and a lot of game experience, ready to push the envelope.
That could be the difference between "LSU is building something nice down there", and "LSU is ready to crash UGA's party".

don't know who the backup QB at Ole Miss is right now,
It's about to be Dart and Howard when Spencer Sanders shows up.

Daniels didn’t enter the portal until after early signing day, so while it might have felt like a bait and switch situation to a kid, it wasn’t. It’s big boy, SEC football. The coach’s job is to make the team better. Period.
If Spencer Sanders heads to Ole Miss, how is Howard’s position any better? He’s still looking at 3rd string now and a likely 2 year path to the field up against a multi-year starter in Dart.

It’s really weird. Since I’ve followed LSU FB - early 80’s, La. doesn’t consistently produce highly touted QB’s.
3 the past 2 years either never seriously considered LSU or didn’t stick longer than a year. Objectively, it’s just weird…

If Nuss goes pro early, some highly rated QB caught in a numbers game will transfer in.

Walker Howard was a fricking five-star athlete dude.
At the time that we got him, who was sad about it?

Overall, I like the portal. It tends to benefit big programs like ours. In general, I kinda hope the kids that initially chose us go on and have successful careers at their new schools. But there’s no way I’ll hope someone moves on to Ole Piss, bammer, or tamu and lights it up!
By the way, this place is a ways off from being pro free speech.

You keep saying this but is patently false and disingenuous. Walker Howard signed before Jayden Daniels was in the portal. Daniels wasn’t on anyone’s radar.
Daniels signing didn’t stop Howard from putting in his dues and working his way up the depth chart. Howard got on campus and realized that he’s no longer the alpha. Howard took the easy way out. There was no “baiting and switching.”
Howard wasn’t going to be able to move past a guy who refuses to throw the ball down the field and another guy who is turnover prone. (According to this board)
That’s a huge indictment on WH as he stands now

We were never getting Manning. There were 3 Mannings before him and none of them chose LSU despite living in New Orleans. We were not going to get Arch Manning.

Jesus...
Some of y'all really get bent around the axle on this shite.
I can't imagine being "very disappointed" over where a kid decides to go to college and play football.

He is Tiger Bait
He could have stayed and battled for a starting spot next year and if he won, he could have become a Louisiana legend. He chose the easy way out.
