re: The point spread just doesn't seem right?

Almost every SEC game we played last year we breezed through and won by 13 against a Mississippi state team(That was way better than this Auburn team)on the road on Thursday night. Mississippi State beat Auburn by 18 and could have been 24. I just think this LSU team is on a different level than anyone else but Alabama. If we are only favored by 18 in this game I could see a 3 point spread for Florida and Alabama favored by 17 when we play them.

How are we only 18.5 favorites against Auburn?
If you think it is low, place a bet. If you don't like to bet, no need to look at spreads. Spreads aren't set at where the experts think the score will be, they are set to keep the money fairly even on both sides.

SEC refs will call the game....

How are we only 18.5 favorites against Auburn? Auburn is atleast the 4th to 6th worst team in the West. If we are only favored by 3 possessions to them I hate to see what the spread will be when we play Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Alabama, and Arkansas.
heres how they work on lsu, vegas sets the line based on the general public's perception (sec game on the road, hostile environment blah blah)...that being said they set it at 18.5, then it will move to 21 by the end of the week because people think "surely lsu will cover that" and throw down mucho cheds. the betting public sees it move 3 points in favor of lsu, so they bet on auburn to cover because in their minds its a free 3 points. this insures that the money is even on either side and vegas wins no matter what

Home field worth 3. Auburn refs worth 10.
Auburn blew their ref budget on the ULM game. Refs may only be good for 6 pts or so.

Vegas hates LSU. It's a conspiracy.

If something looks like a sucker bet, it USUALLY is. The football pool I'm in selects 10 games a week and this will probably be one of them. If so, I'll be counterintuitive in picking Auburn, but will place the minimum bet.
And if LSU covers, I'll lose, but still be stoked.
Win-Win.

We have only won 1 out of the last three or four games recently against auburn. 18.5 points at auburn is a good line. Auburn will be playing with a chip on their shoulder about feeling disrespected at home with a line that high. They will also see beating lsu would put their season back on track for a decent bowl game. This is a serious test for a young team playing its first road game of the year. By this time last year we were battle hardned. This year we have only played cupcakes.

Thanks a lot jackass!

before the season started i believe the line was at -8.5 That would have been the time to jump on it. Hindsight...20/20...grumble.

The guys that set these lines know what they are doing.
what are they doing? are they predicting the point spread or are they trying to split the money?

its already moved to 21...see vegas is trying to seem like if you take auburn now that its good value because of the "free points" you get now. we may see this sucker go to 23 or 24
