Sorry it was used in 1960 during my first Tiger game. I think the new thing was the current fight song "Hey Fighting Tigers" which was introduced around that time.

Hey, I was a dumb freshman and actually believed the cheerleader. But you’re right; “Hey Fighting Tigers” was the song, which turned out a lot better than it sounded at the time with just the cheerleaders singing it and no band.

I started going to the games when I was a kid, but still don’t remember Hot Boudin before my freshman year.

I'm pretty leery of a lot of the "origins" of college cheers. They come up from other colleges and from high schools.

True Story: Ole Miss Game in '08. I was home visiting and went to the game, not being a student anymore I sat with the family who has seats near the visitors section.

Ole Miss fans start that annoying arse-

"I'm a rebel I'm a rebel
I'm a rebel through and through
and I'd rather be a rebel
than a coonass from LSU"

They did this every.five.fricking.minutes.

So I got fed up with it, and when they did it during a TV timeout I had enough - as soon as they finished their millionth rendition the PA went silent and I yelled(sang) out back at them

"You're a rebel You're a rebel
You're a rebel through and through
How's it feel to be a rebel
When your dad's your brother too?"

They wanted to fight me :P but the whole section was laughing at them so they just turned their noses up and watched the game, they were quiet after that.

"Couscous" and "Push" don't rhyme.

It does rhyme if you say it the way it's supposed to be said. It's a Cajun pronounciation. You pronounce "push" like "poosh"

Part of the blame lies with David Toms and that add he did for CBS Golf awhile back where they let the players talk about their college allegiances. When he says the cheer, he actually SAYS "cous cous". I can see misspelling it, but it's very clearly couche couche and not cous cous.

I am personally still trying to figure out both the origins and possible meaning of "tiger bait". No matter what you say, it don't make no damned sense.

It makes exactly as much sense as any other cheer. Like how much sense does Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer make?

Anyway, I agree "Tiger food" would be more logical, but "tiger bait" just sounds so much better.
