How about this:

1) all 4 power conferences go to 9 conference games.
2) all 4 power conferences must schedule their remaining 3 non- conference games against the other power conferences (one from each)
* current format would be the top 16 from each play these games
* based on previous years finish all 1's play each other 2's play 2's etc
* locked in in for home and home then reschedule every other year
* if we get to even numbers for all then its all in

This would make EVERY regular season game matter and create some great home and home matchups for season ticket holders

Dont you think his would give us a better way to show true power ratings?

So 4 power conference champs get auto bids one non power conference champ get in i franked in top 10 all other spots at large.

oh and Notre Dame is out unless they join a conference.

Wrong we don’t need more playoff teams. We need less.

Less won’t happen so best thing to do is remove auto bye for conference champ- those go to 4 best teams.

You can give home field to non bye conference champs, then reseed after first round.

Join the SEC or Big10 or get fricked. Kick the shitty schools like Purdue, Miss State, etc the hell out and let them form a smaller conference with the Colorados and Wake Forests of the world. Let one or two of those fricks in the playoff which would still in essence be a bye game for the big dogs.

Do something, but these games today have been a total waste of time.

What do you do about all the teams that are in the middle ground?

is to remove 8-10 teams from the 12 that got in.

No clue. They can focus on becoming basketball schools or something. Gotta figure out a way to balance out the schedules as much as possible. We are 3 games into the playoff and finally on the 4th game we have two teams who no one is questioning if they should be in the playoff or not. Shouldn’t be like that.

ETA: just thinking ahead to how this board would go balsamic if LSU is ever left out for having 3 losses when a team like Temple and Northwestern gets in with 0 quality wins but goes 11-1.

No conference with any stroke (SEC & Big10 at minimum) will agree to this much control of their schedule-making by the NCAA.

It’s going to be like that no matter what. The reality of the matter is that there are never going to be 12 teams that “deserve” to make the playoff. And if there is, there’s going to be 5 other teams that also “deserve” to make it but get left out. It’s not like any of the teams that got left out are incapable of getting blown out.

I think we are somewhat on the same page. Personally I would love to blow up all the conferences and do a total reset and move to a 8 team playoff. But that won’t happen because of tv contracts.

They need to move the mid-majors to a separate division / playoff. Problem solved. Too many schools in 1-A that can’t complete and don’t belong.

I may be in the minority but I enjoy the tough out of conference games. Going to Austin and beating Texas week 2 as well as all the other top 10 wins is what made 2019 so much more special. Of course it sucks when it doesn’t work out but teams shouldn’t be punished for challenging themselves when you have Notre Dame, Indiana and SMUs of the world sleep walking into the playoffs.

Holy overreaction Batman!!!

At least you didn’t say that an SMU team who lost by 28 points to the number 6 team in the country needed to be replaced by an Alabama team that lost by 21 to a 6-6 Oklahoma team.

How about getting rid of any conference shenanigans when final CFP ranking and seeding. Just take the top 16 teams, period. Or just take top 8; expansion will get ridiculous and too many games.
