re: The only reason why people on this board do not like Angel Reese

Don't you agree that Angel Reese should be messaging to the very demographic that so many people find to be particularly at risk
Perhaps Angel should be “messaging” the men in her community who abandon their children. She could start with her own sperm provider.
Now that I think about it, perhaps her jealousy of Clark stems from the fact that Cait has a daddy that cares about her.

Victim mentality: off [ON]
Blacks don’t get a fair shot at basketball because they’re black?…thats news to me.
Would Skenes get in trouble for saying similar things? Yes or no?
So does that mean there is a double standard? Of course there is. Some folks are in a protected class, completely immune from criticism. Must be nice to have that privilege.
I love how you triggered folks don't quote an entire thought to try to make your point. So here is the whole thing you picked a portion of.
quote:
Like maybe there is a subset of girls who live with very little hope, who maybe have been told their whole life, rightly or wrongly, that because of how they look they will never get a fair shot.
Which means something different from what you posted.
Is it a victim mentality? Sure.
How do you change that mentality? By giving people hope and showing them they can succeed by working for it.
If that mentality is wrapped into a narrative related to race (again, the narrative you hear your whole life may not be true but you don't know that) will you be more likely to be motivated and empowered by someone from your race? We know the answer to that. Whether it is ideal, right, or whatever you want to call it, it is still true.
Would I prefer young black women look up to Condeleeza Rice, Mia Love, or Harris Faulkner? I would probably say so because they align with my political affiliations and at least somewhat with my personal views on morality, etc. but what I want most is for them, and really everyone, to move beyond hopelessness and low aspirations. For their own sake and because our society and country will benefit, in my opinion.

So we set the bar lower? She can't be expected to behave up to OUR standards?

This is what you posted:
quote:She messages to black girls because, as everyone agrees, black girls need role models.
I don’t like her because she doesn’t like white people.
Go look at the shite she says.
“This is for the girls that look like me” etc.

Hard to support someone that hates your white skin.
Please find me anything Reese has posted that says she doesn't like white people or that she hates your skin color. I know that you have already been asked to provide an example. I'll wait.

I’m sure if Skenes would’ve said similar stuff, he would’ve been roasted for being a raging racist….but it’s ok for Angel. The double standard is strong.
quote:Do you really not see any difference between Angel Reese messaging to black girls and Paul Skenes messaging to white kids?
Why black girls and not girls?
Imagine Skenes saying he was playing for white kids.
Would your response be the same?
Of course not.

I’ll help you. White savior liberals think minorities are so helpless that they need to be treated with kid gloves to have any chance of success in life. It’s the most disgusting form of bigotry, but it makes them feel good about themselves.

The only reason is because she is black and a black girl. They like Clark bc she fits the mold they want. This board is full of boomers who grew up while racism was rampant, they didn’t change. Just got older
Good lord please stfu with this bullshite. Everyone is tired of the race card being played. She is disliked because of the way she acts and doesn’t take accountability for it. I HATED Clark in college but the way she’s being treated in the WNBA is ridiculous. Angel is extremely jealous of her and shows it. Clark gets the attention because she has a different play style than every other woman bball player. Angel is a typical good WNBA player and tries to put herself on the same level as Clark and she isn’t that lol.

Do you really not see any difference between Angel Reese messaging to black girls and Paul Skenes messaging to white kids?
Then doesn't it make perfectly good sense for a successful black woman who has not been an unwed mother and who has gone to college to be a role model to girls that look like her?
If you're right about the reason why the average black kid does not have the same chance of success as the average white kid, don't you want Angel Reese to try to fix the broken black culture?
If you're right about the reason why the average black kid does not have the same chance of success as the average white kid, don't you want Angel Reese to be a role model to show that a black girl can be successful if she does not get pregnant out of wedlock and if she goes to college?
Does Paul Skenes need to fix white culture? Do you think white culture is broken? Does Paul Skenes need to talk to white kids because white families can’t keep fathers in the household?
