Doughty played 3rd really well last year. Let Merrifield play 2nd and tell Berry he is hitting DH. What’s he gonna do, transfer after the season? Fielding this poorly at the D1 level is pitiful.

Berry get mid-week starts at 3rd, and match up related when we need extra hitting... Granted it was juco, but merrifield was a very good defender. Fielding translates better at a higher level than either hitting or pitching

I like it but I would give Bianco a shot at 2nd.

I'm all for it. We all just have to understand that it won't fix things overnight - Merrifield has been focusing on 3B and Doughty has been focusing on 2B, so expect some hiccups, at least initially, if/when they move. Doughty had played alot of SS in spring scrimmages. These are the hiccups from having to play out of position when Thompson was injured. I hope a move doesn't give us another 12 games of hiccups. We need to sweep A&M to start the conference schedule.

Defense is very transferable from juco to D1. It's the offense that's not always the same.

Love berry as a bitter but he’s just not that good defensively

And that’s OK, bc we have other options

Can’t say this - you “don’t know baseball”. Apparently we’re supposed to lose half our games figuring out how to play the game, then tack on a few more while we figure out what uniform we wear. Disagree and you’ve never watched an inning.

I got paid to throw a baseball for a bit, so yeah I’m going to say I know what I’m talking about. This team is lazy in the field, pitching is suspect, and they are not all that just yet offensively. Offense will win them several games, but we can’t keep giving even average teams like Baylor opportunities. This isn’t a top twenty team right now and they need to quit hearing the excuses.

Berry’s play has to affect his draft status, it might help him to go back to DH.

Fully agree. Hopefully Gio moves to OF (preferably center due to his speed and move Crews to right), Doughty to 3rd, Berry to DH.

Committee at second base with Merrifield getting first looks and maybe also try Cranford or Bianco.

I wanna see Gio in the line up anyway. I really like Joubert, but a defense with Doughty at 3rd and Gio at center is much much better

Where he played 2nd base. Makes sense to put him there.

Merrifield isn’t exactly playing well defensively himself.

All of this.

I've been an avid baseball guy for the last 25 years, which may not be a lifetime, but is more than long enough to know what I'm talking about. I come here to talk about what I see, not what I feel, or what others would like me to feel. This board is absolutely toxic for baseball discussion. People who don't know anything but a stat sheet, tell you that you're an idiot who only started watching this year, if you try to make any sort of honest evaluation. And when you're proven right, it doesn't matter. They just say "oh, so this is why you watch the games? To be right? So you were pulling for them to lose?"

What's most frustrating about that last sentence, is that I often have very positive evaluations, which are equally well received (which is to say, not well at all, usually). They say "pump the brakes it's only" fill in the blank team or month. All you are "allowed" to do is be happy with a win. Sort of. Even that is sketchy. You can't be TOO happy, or you have to pump the brakes, and you can never be mad, or you are a terrible fan and a quitter. You can't make an evaluation of a player, unless you're someone who writes previews every year for the forum; then you can say whatever you want, and no one will question you. Unless you're that guy, you better just say "nice win" or "it'll be fine", until the board decides it's late enough to have an opinion.

I'm wondering if there's any way we can transition Jobert into a first baseman and move Tre to the outfield. Tre is obviously the best we have at 1B, but Berry is a liability out there. I'm of the opinion that both Jobert and Berry need to be in the lineup, just trying to think of ways to do that.

Yes sir. Shortstop is a problem too. I keep waiting for him to get better.

1. Doughty to 3rd makes sense. He looked much more comfortable there last season. Several options at 2nd (Merrifield, Bianco, Cranford).

2. Don't think there is anyone on the roster to unseat Thompson at SS. Our best bet is he finds a fat chick or two.

3. Morgan is a tremendous defensive player, but a lot of plays he makes harder on himself. Balls he regularly picked last year aren't finding his glove this year. Not sure moving him to the OF would benefit the team and definitely won't fix the IF throwing issues.

4. PFP's have been horrible. Something that Kelley needs to address immediately.

5. Shuffle the defense all you want, there is no place to hide Berry. Let him focus on doing what he does best...smash balls into the bleachers.

If you read the very next sentence, I said the exact same thing... Defense is defense, and the distance from 2nd to 1st is still 90 ft
