Actually at the time that Paterno found out about that, Sandusky was retired from the coaching staff, so Paterno turned it over to the university officials to deal with it as they saw fit. That is a direct statement Paterno made. He is only the head coach, and I believe holds no administrative position in the upper throes of the university thus clearing him of any responsibility on the issue.
