The only people that may have a real decision to make regarding the draft vs NIL stuff would be lower tier juniors that may not get a ton in the draft but have built a following while on campus. The money still won't be comparable (the draft would still likely pay way more) but it could help offset the lost bonus between Jr and Sr years.

Best believe, they will be looking at college baseball. National brands look at exposure and getting their product out there. Now, with guys opting to go to school ( look at vandy) and also able to make money, there’s no reason to go straight to some small town and play baseball for 4 years when you can go to college and make as much ( maybe not with a signing bonus) and have the college experience.

The idea that you could come to school & make extra living money is certainly plausible & attractive in its own way.

But I just don’t foresee NIL money for baseball players competing with pro contracts.

And I’m sure branding for baseball players will change & improve with this but with the numbers available, most of these kids simply do not get the exposure needed to build that base.

A kid like freshman Jack bech will probably have more social media followers by the end of the year than anyone on the baseball team, for instance. College baseball just ain’t it

Let’s say we are trying to keep five players from leaving, and their signing bonuses would average $150,000 each. We would need a sponsor to come up with an additional $750,000 per year. Big deal! LSU has a thousand fans who could do that if they wanted to.

Y’all do understand this is about advertising and not just giving money to players, correct? Companies will sponsor players not individual donors. There are rules. And companies have budget for advertising. We are not Texas A&M or University of Texas. LSU does not have the amount of CEOs and other business owners that are willing to fork up that amount of money to keep a baseball player when baseball doesn’t bring in the revenue to the university that football does. I see this as an advantage for maybe people like Crews but not others. You’re talking about first round talent not the guy that’s getting drafted in the fifth the seventh round

This is 100% accurate. Kids on here have no clue how advertising works nor do they understand that there are rules with NIL and people can’t just give a kid all this money without a legitimate business contract for use of his/her Name/Image/Likeness

Exactly. And I’m sure there will be instances where boosters will funnel money under the guise of NIL.

But under the spirit of the new NIL rules, where you are exchanging the Name/image/likeness for money, it has to be profitable for the business, too.

Like yea I like Gavin Dugas as a player, for instance, but he hardly has any marketability on scale bigger than LSU baseball (which is tiny).

If they get paid that little as professionals, what makes you think they’ll have the following to get more than that as college kids.

This won't be about, "hey kid, we will pay you to let us publish your picture with our product. We know you're going to generate a lot of sales for us!"

This will be all about, "Hey kid, when you come to LSU, we have 5 big NIL contracts lined up for our players. We can gaurantee you $10,000 a month during the season, plus a car and apartment."

And you'll see photos of players published in doctor's and lawyer ads, Apartment complexes and auto dealerships.

The regulations don't say what the market rate for various forms of adds are going to be. I single photo - for the right booster, I mean, advertiser can be worth millions.

Here’s the thing though, there are so many different ways to make money. I would say most of the country doesn’t give 2 shits about college gymnastics but Olivia Dunne is probably about to make a million dollars because of her social media following. She couldn’t do that before. Now I’m not saying that it’s going to change a first rounders mind but guys who are projected to go in the 9th or 10th rounds might have something to think about.

So where are all these sponsors gonna come from?

There aren't that many guys who would be affected, I'm sure there's enough businesses, rich people, etc. that can pony up a few hundred k per year.

An education is worth more than that

Baseball gets 11.7 schollies. So most players get a partial.

With NIL, the guys whose programs have a decent fan base can make enough to cover their share of tuition and more than they'd make in the minors. Unless they're high draft picks and can get rich immediately.

Those kids are already coming & staying at lsu lol

The amount of kids that pass up lsu or leave for “pennies” is fricking tiny already

And the ones that are doing it, it’s not because of money
