The negatiger/pessimistic prediction on how Sunday is going to go
Posted on 8/30/24 at 10:00 am

Note: This is a half-satire half-serious prediction meant for entertainment purposes and isn't really meant to be taken seriously.
So just a heads up, Sunday is going to suck.
After re-watching alot of our games last year, I've concluded that our biggest issue on defense wasn't scheme or coaching, it was personnel. Almost all of which are back this year.
There is a massive dropoff at DT after Guillory. We had all offseason to get guys in the portal to that could replace Mason, Jefferson, and Wingo. We didn't. A decent player at Grand Valley State just isn't going to get it done in this conference. At DE, we're basing everything on potential, given that none of them have really done anything yet in their careers.
I'm excited about what Baker can do with Perkins. The Weeks bros and Penn are serviceable, not great LBs.
The secondary is extremely concerning from a talent standpoint. Knowing who to cover and being in the right place is fine, but if you can't keep up physically with a high powered passing offense like USCs, you're in trouble. I expect alot of missed tackles and guys just getting outrun Sunday.
I think the offense will be good by mid season, but there are going to be growing pains. I like Nuss, but it's going to take some getting use to being THE guy. I fully expect more INTs this year with possibly 1-2 this weekend. Also, yes Sloan has been a OC before, but not at this level. It's going to be a learning process.
Offensive line is great at pass blocking, run blocking they are average. Don't believe me? Go see how well we did in the running game outside Jayden against the good rushing defenses of FSU, Bama, A&M. It was pretty bad.
I'm worried about Hilton being limited. He's had a great camp and I think Nuss has established good timing with him the past few years. Not nearly as much with the new transfers.
Oh, and special teams. I expect punting to be more inconsistent compared to last year and I'll believe the return game is fixed when I see it.
Feel free to add your own doomsday predictions. If this catches on, maybe I'll do a positiger prediction tomorrow. If not, see yall Sunday.

He is the negative concern:
Lincoln Riley is an excellent offensive HC/play-caller. He's proven over the course of several years. The LSU secondary isn't great. The upperclassmen are, at best, average players. The young players are, well, young. Riley will game plan to allow Moss to get the ball out of his hand quickly to mitigate any pass rush LSU is trying to generate. Because it's the first game (where tackling is often an issue) and LSU's DBs just aren't that good, the USC WRs are able to turn short passes into nice gains.
As a result, LSU falls behind or at least feels like they have to air it out to keep up...just like last year. The plan to run the ball and control the clock goes out of the window. Nussmeier looks like he did in the second half of the SECCG vs Georgia. He makes some absolutely beautiful throws to keep LSU within shouting distance most of the game. But his bravado to try to force throws that aren't there leads to a few INTs (he's thrown at least one in every game of his career where he attempted more than 12 passes).USC's defense, under Lynn, displays a greater improvement than LSU's does (Lynn took UCLA from 90th to 12th last season).
LSU does enough to stay within a 10-14 point range the whole game, but they never really threaten to win.
The Rant has a meltdown and wants BK fired immediately...only to wake up and realize this is just year 3 of a 10 year, $100M contract and BK isn't going anywhere soon. Their ire then turns to Woodward for saddling LSU with their version of Jimbo Fisher just like he did at A&M.

As much as I want to disagree with you, unfortunately I can’t because I feel like the exact things you’ve stated about the defense is going to happen come Sunday. This has been the least exciting month of August for me regarding LSU football in quite a while.

IDK what will happen Sunday but this scenario will occur at some point in the season. FACT.

Upside: defense can’t get any worse. New coaching staff will help getting back on track. Yes, it’s not going to be a good defense but just good enough. I think the offense will do just fine. The OL should be able to tire out the Trojan D by mid 3rd. That’s when LSU breaks away. Look for Parker, Jackson and Perkins to be the picks to click.

I agree, and the concern is warranted. LSU is stuck with Kelly for at least another 3 seasons, so let’s hope for the best.

We said that about FSU two years in a row, UCLA ans Mississippi State. I always hope for a win, but never underestimate our ability to underperform.

I think it’s a different environment now with this team. Kelly pretty much has his own players out on the field. Huge upgrades at coaching positions are a big plus. I’m putting my money where my mouth is tomorrow as soon as I get to the strip. LSU wins

I mean at this point in the game everybody is just posting the same shite with different words. There’s nothing new left to analyze. No new info out there. People just keep regurgitating the same stuff but rewording it
I’m ready for everyone to just shut up and to get the party started

I think we run well enough that SC has to commit more personnel to stop the run. This opens up the passing game. This game rests with our defense.
