Do we thank Saban for this?

Honest question.

No. Before Saban LSU was a program that people across the country knew. We were one of the few programs that played at night. The downside of course was that our scores and games didn't make the Sunday morning papers, but there was a mystique about LSU FB and the Bayou Bengals before Nick Saban. People knew about LSU. After Alabama we were the most known program in the SEC back then.

The only thing more undervalued than LSU athletics is LSU academics.

Several posters need to remember this list is about TV ratings, not football power.

There are several teams in the list ranked highly that are not good football teams, and some towards the bottom that are good teams, just without a huge TV following.

Yes but #24 TCU and #30 West Virginia are never mentioned in anyone's list of schools to join the eventual new super conferences.

pretty impressive for such a small state's school that also doesn't have blue blood history

I know that these are reported as the most watched CFB programs, but one thing that may affect LSU's higher than expected rank is WWL radio.

Before wide spread TV coverage, many tuned into games on the radio. WWL's 100K watt coverage created tons of fans across the country.

This ranking is not based on how good the team is, it is based on the TV viewership.
