I too was guilty of thinking that every off season move that Ed O made was gonna turn out roses. But how could we expect such a thing?
O hit the college football lottery in 2019 with the staff that was assembled, but expecting a repeat is/was foolhardy.
2019 saw the best QB in college football history, arguably the best offensive line ever at LSU, 3 NFL ready wide receivers, one of the best RB's in LSU history, and plenty of upper class men to lead a lot of talented freshmen.
I am also disgruntled about this teams performance against UCLA, but there are so many unknowns. How can we make any assessments based on one game? Not only one game, but it was their first game.
Please don't give me the 2020 rhetoric. No coach in the country could have won with that roster, and that staff turnover.
The point is, talk to me in November. Basing a coaches future on the 2020 season is unfair. Especially after he coached the greatest college football season ever.
Maybe we should have tempered our expectations.

quote:maybe the most overrated OL ever at LSU. Burrow was running for his life frequently. They won an award because of Burrow’s ability to scramble.

I agree that it may be too early to make assessments across the board. I think a lot of the issues we saw Saturday can be improved with coaching adjustments.
However, one area I do not think we can improve is on the O Line. We were getting man handled up front. Don't think any amount of coaching is going to compensate for our lack of ability up front.
Unfortunately, that's going to be a gigantic problem in SEC play.
