ESPN is a cable network
abc/espn are owned by the same company. i dont see what it matters that they have contracts with other conferences though. the money still spends the same.
you did not bother to mention the fox or nbc possibilities.
ETA: the "cable" part of this is overblown. advertisers do not give 2 shits about people who cant afford to get espn

You mean like the SEC giving them the right to televise SEC games?

Those are not possibilities for SEC games with the current TV contracts.

Continued "prime time" national exposure does NOTHING but assure the future greatness of the program.

You...are...insane.
So you think we should just go independent, go Notre Dame, and get hooked up with our own major network.....and also tell them when we're going to put our games on TV? Is that what I'm hearing?

jesus christ do you not understand that contracts can be and will be renegotiated when the conference is finished expanding?
even if they were not up for rework, there is nothing wrong with letting our admin know what we want as fans for when they ARE up for grabs again

The subject of the thread is a petition for the LSU/Auburn game. No time to renegotiate contracts.

I agree 100%.

10 page thread... there are discussions within discussions.

Oh, that's a little better, but I have a feeling the SEC isn't going to be in a hurry to renegotiate their TV deal because a portion of one of it's 13 fanbases doesn't like to play until the sun goes down.

i agree, but when they do renegotiate, maybe whoever is our AD can say "hey, we'd like one night home sec game a year".

the NFL
Does not play on Saturday nights.
But I think ESPN would be the best bet... I think they would react very favorably to an approach by the LSU AD. They could work out a deal in which ESPN makes up the revenue LSU loses from CBS not giving us a share of their revenue. I think ESPN would be okay with this because of the increased ratings it would bring to them.

How much negotiating leverage do you think that gives our AD for something that happens once every 76 years?

fairly certain that is not a possibility given sec bylaws etc
best the lsu admin can do is take its case to the sec office for when renegotiation time rolls around. lsu should have a significant say so in what happens since it is one of the big dogs in football.

let me get this straight:
you want ESPN (a cable network) to pick up the games instead of a NATIONAL network (non cable)?
where do you people come from?

To hell with SEC bylaws! Do you really, really think they would kick us out?
