So far this year we are averaging 19 more yards per game, 1 more play per game, and 2.5 more pts per game compared to last year.
Based on the statistics the games this year are very similar to last year. Last year we were 112th in total offense. I would say that the stats indicate that "We are who we were in 2009 on offense." The difference so far is our D is forcing turnovers and shorter possessions and special teams are giving us much better field position.
We will have to see how this plays out but you should be concerned how poor our offense is.

I don't believe there's any question DeAngelo Peterson's return will change some things....He can be a real weapon in the passing game...

We will remain a power running team that scratches out first downs through the roll-out pass, imho.
To complement that we can integrate Shep into the offense and get that big play more often.
We are not, and will not be a deep drop passing team as it does not fit JJ's core competencies.
Neither will we suddenly begin to run the wildcat or something similar.
We will experiment each game with our existing offense, try to get that lead, and then BANG away with the run and the short/mid level passing game with JJ rolling out.
And we will continue to WIN with it and pile up the victories.

When LSU lines up with the best, LSU will have to throw it and run it, and LSU will be prepared to do that.
That sounds like a wacky Les Miles theory to me.

Miles' strategy this year is to win with a running game and strong defense at the expense of trying to win the SEC by taking a chance with Lee at QB.
are people really this stupid, oh wait, this is the rant. some of you people are so fricking clueless.

Not exactly. We look like we may be a better team running the football and so far have been worse through the air. If we can continue to run the ball as well as we have and if JJ can start to play as well as he did in 2009, we will be alright. I didn't say great, just alright.

for those saying you have to be able to air it out to win the big games vs top teams please explain the following.
2003 passing yards for Mauck vs UGA in SECCG-151. and vs OU in NC game-124.

I agree our running game is better but either way you slice it we are averaging a little over 300 yards per game.
The single biggest difference this year is our field position. Our offense is the same but we are in field goal range quicker.
I am not ready to right off the O for the season but they are starting off the year consistent with a trend that has lasted 17 games now.

The problem last week was we kicked MSU's arse without passing so there was no need to pass.
Why is it ok for Alabama to pass for 50 yard during a game and win but not ok for LSU to pass for 97 and also win?
Is anyone here stupid enough to think that JJ's arm is the strong suit of our offense? Why rely heavily on the weak spot if you don't need it?

The first half of the UNC game was a pretty good half for the LSU offense. It was, of course, the first game of the season.
The LSU offense improved against Vanderbilt. Unfortunately, Jefferson had the worst game of his career.
Both the LSU offense as a whole and Jefferson individually improved even more against Mississippi State.
The offense is coming of age.

I never understood the stance of we did what we had to do to win and no more. That is like saying we could have whipped Moo State's arse, but we didn't want to take the risk of turnovers. No risk no reward. Lee should have been throwing the ball and so should Jefferson.

So where was this offense against Bama, Florida, Ole Miss last year? Not sure I share your positivity but I hope you are right.

J.J. will never be able to run Crowtons offense like Flynn did.
Flynn didn't run Crowton's offense.
No QB has ran Crowton's offense well since 2002.
What we currently see is the Crowton's offensive scheme. It has never been effective. It shouldn't be a surprise.

It is OK sporadically but Alabama had a heisman trophy winning rushing attack last year and I would say that we will not have that this year. I am sure Tommy Frazier had low passing numbers as well but Nebraska ran the ball at will.
I am curious to know what the offensive numbers were after JJ started in 2008.
I feel that we have a large enough sample size to determine that our offense is not good and is trending that way this year as well.

The biggest problem with the sputtering offense so for this season has been the ultra conservative playcalling. They might have intended to be further along at this time, but no doubt the JJ bad game at Vandy probably set them back. However, the good news is JJ performed pretty well last Saturday night. Hence, they might have the courage to unleash the offense this week against WVU. They can’t keep holding back week after week forever. If the coaches’ offensive numbers don’t soon improve considering all the 4 and 5 star talent we have on the team, at the end of the season someone in authority is going to want to know why and expect answers, and per Alleva’s letters I think Miles is cognizant of that reality.

Jefferson was coming off of the worst game of his career, a game in which he was obviously pressing. It was a horrible game for him.
LSU is not playing Bama in the game after the MSU game. The MSU game was never out of hand. It seems reasonable to me to allow Jefferson to his confidence back. Jefferson's confidence and future performance is a higher priority than whipping MSU's arse.
