The brilliant Joesph Louis Alleva. Did his best to destroy LSU basketball but the General Wade stood like a stonewall

In Brady and a little bit of Johnson’s tenure the crowds were pretty rowdy. See Arizona 2000, Arizona 2002, Kentucky 2000, Kentucky 2002, Kentucky 2006, Tennessee 2000, Tennessee 2006 and Florida 2009.
06 UGA game too. There was always one or two games a year where it turned up but mostly unremarkable. Neltner tip-in may have been crazy or I may just remember that because I hugged some random dude when it happened. Ball St. NIT game was bigger than it should have been.

I also remember going to games from 2000- 2009 there was a tall guy in the student section that wore a Lamont Roland Jersey (goat). When he left it all went down hill.
Yep

The students were pretty loud last night in the same location

Currently we are trying to be the best team in the SEC. In Dales years we were competing to be the best in the country. Big difference.

I’m sure he will take credit now but it depends on when you ask him.
Early season with a couple borderline OOC losses? It was his biggest mistake and the hire was pushed on him by others.

frick Dale Brown. He’s anti- Will Wade

The demise of the student section started with the creation of the Maravich Maniacs section in 2005-06. Even back then, most students thought it was lame to sit down there. It appears to have had a generational affect.

Not really and during Shaq and Chris' era LSU never finished inside the top 15. The crowds were rowdy as hell.

It was the first sold out game since the Brown era. We were off to a 13-0 record with win against Ok St and Bama. Tennessee was highly ranked. We lost a close game.

What is it then? Just a fall off of interest in college basketball?
I don't know. A combo of factors. Most obvious to me is the basketball culture in BR isn't what it was in the 80s-early 90s. And that's not a flip of the switch change.
Yeah, I remember visiting LSU's campus during the Chris Jackson/Shaq days, and I knew I wanted to go to college there...primarily because of that culture. PMAC was packed, national TV games on ABC against teams like Arizona - it was just the "it" school for basketball, to me back when I was a kid. But my freshman year was 1995-96, and I think we got nailed with sanctions in 1996 or 1997 over the whole Lester Earl thing. Dale had just retired. One of the funniest, yet saddest moments from my college days was being at the PMAC in the student section circa 1998 against Bama with one of theirs at the line to shoot 2...another student is screaming at the top of his lungs, and you can tell he's the guy screaming because almost nobody else was. before the second shot goes up he stops and turns around to the rest of the crowd and yells "Come on guys, we need this one to miss!" Place was just dead. Granted we weren't very good in those years, just prior to the Stromile team.

You see students waving pompoms behind the boards when the opponent shoots free throws all the time on TV.

I vaguely remember that. Good info. Thanks!

Yup Pretty sure ASU’s (Arizona State) is behind the goal and their student section is awesome. They had Michael Phelps with them one game doing the little thing they do when the opponents are shooting free throws

Rant logic: If you hired someone you didn’t necessarily hire someone.

No it’s not. The students being absolutely silent is killing the environment.

1. Start by getting rid of Dan Borne. Talk about drain the energy.... we get a steal and dunk, other team calls TO and we go into a Coca Cola ad. There needs to be less promo in general and more high energy music etc...
2. At timeouts have the cheerleaders in the aisles of the crowd. Get more crowd interaction.
3. There needs to be a reconfiguration of the arena. At ole miss the first 5 rows on 3 sides of the court were students with a bigger section behind visitor basket
4. Get rid of that long row court side and make it actual seats.
5. Put all media in the rafters
6. There should be half court / full court shots for $10k, tuition, season football tickets in the club level, vehicles
7.50/50 raffles for charity
8. Every game should have some sort of organization as the guests of the game( youth leagues, CSAL, EBR public schools. All kids tickets are $1 with adult purchase
9. Every Saturday home game should have either a pregame or post game concert
10. Red Panda!!!!!

Alleva says its his biggest mistake so he doesn't want any credit for it. Give it to Nunez.
