His dad was an Ole Miss grad and Wright lives in Oxford now. He used to live in BR while covering LSU.
Wright is an Ole Miss fan, for what it's worth.
He is one of those guys that would be a top end writer on any subject. He worked with Rolling Stone, New York Times, SI and others while in school. He was also a featured writer for the Kansas City Star after leaving TP.
He is also the writer that broke the story on Saban forcing teachers to give grades...

I know I tend to give LSU and its fan base tons of shite...but as long as that man is your coach I will always have a rooting interest in LSU. He's a fantastic ambassador for the university and an all-around great fricking person.
God bless Les...

Les Miles is going to be a household name in the state of Louisiana for years to come. I'm not just talking 5 or 10 years down the road, but 50 or 100 years down the road.
He's the greatest coach in the history of Louisiana State University. Even more, he's the greatest person ever associated with Louisiana State University athletics, and maybe even the school altogether.
What this team is about to do over the next few years will make him a living legend in Baton Rouge. And he'll stay that way until he leaves us.
The day Miles passes will be a tearful day for many, including me. He means that much to this team, this university, and this state. The image that he portrays for this university and football team is unmatched by any university across the country.
No matter how much people may have hated him in the past, it's impossible not to love the man now. He's everything you want in a human being. And I am so proud that he is on our side.
To Les Miles!!!

Damn he lives in Oxford? I would bet my left nut I have met him a couple times and talked over drinks. I used to hang at The City Grocery bar with all the older literary guys a good bit. (Barry Hannah, etc.) They all drink like fish.

Her real name is the same as Les' wife (or close), so it's not surprising that a nickname is used. No idea where they got that one--probably something she tried to say or do when she was a year old.
If I remember correctly it is because she smacked her food when she was little.

"How much would your dad have liked next Saturday?" a visiting reporter asks him, standing at the door to his office.
Five seconds pass. When he finally speaks, his voice is low and quiet. The look on his face is difficult to describe, but he seems, for a moment, to be somewhere else.
"It would have been awfully important to him," Miles says.
He looks up.
"Can I tell you something? I don't know if I would have got to that. That question you just asked. I don't know that I would have gotten to that today. Think about how wonderful that was. Let me just say how wonderful that was for me. Thank you."
Wow. My eyes got misty throughout that piece. Very good writing and Les is a good and decent man. I really like the part when he was talking to his son about the changes he made at the line and how he knew he could be a head coach one day, how he just was "that guy." Every kid wants to hear that from their Dad and so few do.
Great article.

I had to fight back tears more than a few times while reading this article. What an inspiration!
Here's to Les Miles and the man who shaped him, Bubba!

He always idolized Bo Shembeckler at UM. He wanted to be him. He is Bo...he's just wearing purple and gold. I am eternally greatful this man leads out team, and is a figure head for my alma mater, and our state.
