The Last Thing Miles Wanted Was A QB Controversy

He knows that he is literally coaching for his job. That is a lot of pressure, especially when you are unwilling to change your philosophy on offense.
The glimmer of hope that was shown by Etling in the 2nd Quarter threw a whole new dynamic into Miles' current battle to keep his job.
Etling, when the chips are down, is probably not better (or much better) than Harris. If he plays him, he runs a huge risk. If he is the same or only marginally better, then LSU will likely still lose four plus games. If Etling is good enough to win 10 games, then Miles is shown to be an idiot for not starting him in the first place.
All of this is just more fuel to the fire under Miles' seat and he knows it. I think that is why his demeanor is less than pleasant right now.

I can agree with this statement.
You could see the stress on Miles face at half and after the game.

Does anybody here really think Miles gives a shite about his job at this point? He blatantly lied to the AD when he told him that he would change the offensive philosophy.
We will know for certain when Harris trots out as the starter against MSU that he doesn't give even 1 shite about his job.

I saw that not as stress, but as blind madness because he could potentially be wrong about Harris and what the offense needs to do to be successful.

He probably wanted to be fired last year. He can't quit, that's too much money to walk away from.

I believe all of this is true.

The offensive philosophy has changed Why do people keep saying that. Did you think we were gonna go from pro style to a spread wide open offense? If so youre a dumbass. We threw the ball 28 times game 1. That's a change. Lol

Does this apply to all coaches that bench the starter for the backup?

Does Miles want a head coaching controversy?

I don't get this. Harris won 10 games last year.
Obviously Harris was not getting it done this year but lets not act as if Harris showed signs of being better than this last year.

And when your starter begins the game 0 for 4 and you're at risk of losing to J-State, you'd better put in a different QB.

How can he be better than himself?

Nah.

Agree! Bottom line: it was fun to watch LSU FB starting in the 2d qtr Sat night. Etling looked in complete command. Comfortable with the plays, sets and reads/checkdowns. He side-stepped the rush, and made some nice throws. Also, BIG, he was NOT forced to blow any T/O's due to wrong play/personnel/play clock...confusion...and he is the 2d string qb! He was poised throughout, and his presence forced Jax St to respect the downfield pass, thus keeping them from overloading the box and opening running lanes for Guice. With a full week of 1st team reps, and a healthy LF, this OFF can be VERY balanced and effective next week. Sched sets itself up nicely to get this O on track. Opportunity is there, CLM and co. need to seize it. GT!

I don't think Harris could make the throws on the couple of screen passes that Etling made. I don't think Harris could step up in the pocket when pressured (at least he hasn't shown that ability yet this year...which it appears is going to be heavily needed all year with this busted arse OL). Do I think Harris can throw further than Etling sure. I think if you gave Etling the number of 1st team reps and SEC starts that Harris has he would be clearly better.
