The last game LSU Football lost away from home to a team in a non P5 conference...

With LSU having at least the remote possibility of losing such a game vs. UCF, can you name the last team LSU lost to, away or neutral, that wasn't in a Power 5 league at the time of the game?
For the purpose of this discussion I also count Notre Dame as a "Power 5" opponent because those assholes are treated as such by the NCAA and when it comes to being slotted in bowls.
Back with the answer in a few..

Is there a reason we aren't including home games?

Because we aren't playing UCF at home?
And because the last 2 at home are pretty easy to name: Troy last year and UAB in 2000.

Rice? or Tulane?
Probable sometime in the 70's or 80's

Of course there is. The same reason there's a qualifier to stuff like this in sports just like Miles making the ridiculous claim of being undefeated in regulation. It's to try to deter from terrible moments to make one side of an opinion look as good as possible. Just eliminate the data that hurts your argument.

It has been more recent than that.

Virginia Tech was still in the Big East when we lost there in 2002.
Most of those teams are now in the ACC, so not sure if this game qualifies to answer your question.

It had to be in 1999.

Yeah, and we don't play these teams on the road.

This is the answer I was looking for.
Big East was a decent football conference for a couple years, but not a "Power 5".
And I'm not trying to make this sound like some incredible stat by LSU as mentioned by someone earlier....I am more pointing out the anomaly of LSU playing a non-P5 school away from home, either in the regular season or post-season.

Tulane in 1981 was an independent
Rice in 1980 although they were Southwest Conference then
Syracuse in 1988/ Jan 89 - Hall of Fame Bowl - was independent, but they were ranked at the time, this might be closest comparison to UCF

When we played at Texas A&M in the early 90's, they were still in the Southwest Conference, but since that basically evolved later into the Big-12, I would consider it a "P5"

The Big East was an automatic qualifier for the BCS though. Miami was the defending national champion out of that league in 2002.
I'm not sure Virginia Tech satisfies your original question, unless you consider the AAC on that level.

There was a Power 6 which included the six conferences which made up the BCS Championship coalition.
The six conferences were the Big East, the ACC, the SEC, the Big 10, the Big 12 and the Pac 10.
So, your claim that Virginia Tech was not in a major championship conference is hereby ruled invalid.

They play 10 P5 opponents which is why they are treated as such. 2 Group 5 and 0 FCS.
I have nothing else to offer the thread.

Then this thread is stupid. Virginia Tech played for a national title in the Sugar Bowl just 3 years before the game you're referencing.
