I disagree with OU on the list - have you ever been to Norman or Stillwater. ND is also barely hanging on your list
That's the point some are making. The football landscape has been changing, but some old impressions die a slow death. Someone posted that the media jumps all over the thought that one of "them" is about return to glory days, due to a new coach, or a moderately successful season or two. Remember when ND hired Charlie Weis?

Bingo.

This is a perfect example.
ND hires Weis. In his first year, ND opens the season by beating two teams: Pitt and I think Army.
ND goes from being unranked, to #10 in two weeks.
Yup. TWO WEEKS. No Rank - Top 10.
Think this would happen for LSU? Never.
Know your place. Then laugh when the hype catched up to them, which it did, rather quickly.
Oh yeah, then LSU was the team to put them back in their place and they still haven't recovered!

Easy there EZE.
So are they facts or opinions?
So, are they truths, facts, or opinions?
lol
Only difference between baseball and football is scale. The dynamics of media attention are the same: it has to be earned over time.
and "never"?
Here you go again with "the truth", or is it your opinion? Or facts? There's quite a difference, bro. Don't be mad. The above "beliefs" are what the post-60 crowd still hold onto; let them go.
never...ever?
lol
I read your entire post, now twice. But I stand by what I posted.

One thing I want everyone to keep in mind: THIS IS NOT A WHINING RANT. These facts are what they are. In my humble opinion...

Sorry, this is the truth.

You think so?
They continue to maintain their relationship with NBC and have special consideration for the BCS.
Also, take a look at ESPN's College Football front page, scroll down to the blogs and you'll see this:
quote:
College FB Nation Blog »
ACC
Big 12
Big East
Big Ten
Pac-12
SEC
Notre Dame
Stanford
So there is a list of blogs for each BCS conference - and the a seperate one for Notre Dame.
And the another whole seperate blog just for STANFORD! WTF? Stanford? They are not even a traditional power as much as they are an historical power.
I'm with the OP, I don't listen to the talking heads on ESPN, but I do go to their website for updates/scores/etc..., and that's when I see shite like the above.
frick 'em, I would rather watch the Tigers win all of their games as underdogs then have them given the preferential treatment. It's just more fun to win in spite of being disrespected. TBH, I would prefer that LSU get absolutely NO national media coverage, and then be the first team to win three BCS titles.

For some they are facts and for others, they are opinions. For me, it is pure entertainment.

Football is king. People are always bitching about respect regarding the football program. I'm trying to keep it focussed there.

If you work for a national media firm, this is a fact if you are trying to sell papers, ads, etc. If you are targeting a large audience, do you want to kiss LSU's arse in podunk Louisiana, or do you want to kiss USC's arse in Los Angeles?
Sorry, that is how LA is viewed on a large scale. The truth hurts. We don't see it that way, though, because we live here. Personally, I don't give a shite that they think that about us.

I could be proven wrong eventually, yes. Which is why I stated that, if we do, I never want to see Miles or the players on TV begging if we were to ever lose another "game of the century".
However, with our media market, I don't see it happening, and I like it that way.

Fair enough! You have the same feelings I do, you just approach/handle it from a different perspective. My point to you was that, because of this difference in approach, does not make me "insecure". I'm very secure with where we are and am loving every minute of it.

I hear ya...
I'm insecure LSU fans may not handle (to my liking...lol) the imminent LSU baseball-like dynasty we're about to undertake in football.

I don't think they are insecure. Take that back. Many are.
My point with the whole OP was this:
Quit trying to curry favor from people who don't really like you in the first place. LSU fans begging for media love, to me, is equal to say, Republicans in politics hoping the media will give them glowing reviews.
It is not going to happen. This, IMO, makes it more fun.
Hell, look at this weekend: Nick Saban is a guest hose for Gameday.....DURING THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! LOLOL
How funny is that? The perpetual whining and begging that will take place is going to piss off a ton of fans, as well it should. Reality of it is, they should be laughing. Not mad.
Let the whiners whine and let the winners win.
Entitled/media darling tears taste so good. There will be tears flowing all day tomorrow on ESPN.

While I agree with much of your blog, it must be pointed out that LSU will finish this season having played 13 of their 14 games on national television. That doesn't happen by coincidence. Their are Tiger fans AND haters across this country and that makes LSU a bit more relevant than you give them credit for. I travel all over the world and have run into other LSU fans pretty much at every turn. While their following may be less than Notre Dame's(like everyone else)the Tigers probably have a following similar in rank to their station of being the 12th winningest FBS program of all time. Perhaps even a bit higher. Definitely not just an SEC following IMO.

You are right. I'm very familiar with this as well. My former job was working with these groups all across the country. We have a fanbase like no other.
We played 13 of 14 because we were in the top 5 all year. That happens to every top 5 team.

The Tigers have defeated seven ranked opponents, including three in the top five. They have victories against three teams (Alabama, Oregon, West Virginia) that could be headed for BCS bowl games.
You could easily visualize a 14-0 LSU team standing on the Superdome turf on Jan. 9, justifiably claiming to be the best college football team of all time.

Yes. I agree, but I don't think that is the case.
Best SEASON in the history of CFB? YES. Without a doubt.
Best TEAM in the history of CFB? No, but easily top 5.

i don't buy all this media bias.
look lsu football and tiger stadium are recognized
by the majority of media and fans as the tops of
the college football world .
michigan-usc-notre dame-ohio state-oklahoma would
give anything to be where lsu has been the past 10 years.
"i know our place " and today lsu sits on top of the college football world and when your on top
some will take their shots.

I assume your avatar is Tulane Stadium on Willow Street? It was a grand old structure and the seating was composed mostly of steel. I remember the fans could get the stadium to syncopate if everyone began stomping their feet at the same time.
