Really, so despite hearing that this year they are finally spending more time on passing; u don't think the problem is Les's philosophy?

There is one thing I know from experience for a fact...every system will appear to be flawed if the personnel is not good enough to execute it...100% guaranteed! And that goes for Shorty too if there any gobblers lurking...lol

Hey Choctaw. How ya doing?????

His philosophy is to intentionally minimize the role of the QB in the O scheme.
Wrong. Miles has proven that if he trusts his qbs, he will throw the ball.
Mett finished 6th in attempts in 2013 and the combo of Lee /jj finished 4th in 2011

Moreover, in terms of competing for championships, getting this corrected is more important than another great recruiting class, hiring Aranda, flushing Alleva, or banishing piped-in noise from TS.
bullshite.

way to conservative. We the fans have a want to embarrass teams. Miles sits on leads and takes mercy knees with 5 minutes left in games
Yeah his fricked up philosophy has only led to the most successful tenure in lsu history.
Down vote all you like. The above post is a fact.

We understand that you're unhappy about Les Miles and LSU football, but you miss the mark pretty badly, here.
With JJ, we ran a lot of QB options and designed runs. With Mett, far fewer QB runs, pocket passing and screens. With AJ, more QB runs, options, bubble screens, not a lot of intermediate passes between the hash marks. BH did a little of everything, to a limited degree and when we tried to force passing too much, a la Ole Miss, it didn't work and we reverted back to a run-heavy attack.
Say what you will about disliking Miles, but the offenses have varied according to the qb's strengths and weaknesses.

If the only time you can have a good college passing game is with a 5th year JUCO QB (future NFL starter) and two future pro bowl WRs, then something is INSANELY wrong.
2007 Flynn threw the 5th most passing tds in lsu single season and 9th most passing yards in lsu single season history
2009 JJ had the 11th best passing season in lsu history and his passing tds are tied for 10th most in a single season in lsu history.
2011 lsu was 17th in the country and 2nd in the secin OFFENSIVE points PER GAME
But hey dont let facts get in the way of your opinion

Youre wasting your breath. These are the same posters that swear our offense hasnt changed at all since Miles got here. They claim all the OC'S were lame ducks and it has always been Miles running the offense. Its the same people that can see the difference between Jimbo , Crowton, and Cam.

This is the season that will tell the tale. It's all built up to this season. He knows he is on a short leash. He is not stupid. He knows what everyone wants. He knows why Bama keeps beating us. He knows teams load the box on almost every play. And he still runs between the tackles. He knows he has to open it up and be balanced. If he doesn't know, then he should no longer be the coach. I think he understands that. I hope He does. For his sake.

I am ok with honor. I thought they threw the ball well during Lee's senior year. Until the refs let Bama hit Lee after the play, he was doing fine. Mett was good enough except he has feet of stone. If Quinn makes either catch, LSU beats Bama. the first one was a decent throw. the 2nd one was tough. You are blaming Miles for Quinn dropping the ball, Mett having feet of stone, JJ being JJ. They are kids. Enjoy the games. We hope Harris is better. if he is better, LSU will win nearly all their games. They will have home field vs Bama and Ole Miss. Maybe that's enough.
Folks can harp on philosophy until the cows come home. But great execution enables any offensive philosophy to succeed and make HCs and Coordinators look intelligent. Two broad points here:
1. Harris needs to learn to throw short to intermediary passes with touch. The day he starts consistently passing well in the middle of the field during practices and succeeds the first couple of times in a real game we will see the middle of the field open up for this offense. Just crossing fingers that Miles does not have a brain freeze or is awaken in middle of the night before Bama and Ole Miss games with nightmares of Jarrett Lee circa 2008 LOL!
2. Receivers who can catch the ball when thrown well. Diarse and Quinn are not on this team any longer in part because they did not show enough in practice to breed confidence and literally dropped the ball when it counted the most. We need a slot receiver and reliable pass catcher at TE. And more than just two WRs who are dependable with their hands. The QBs and receivers feed off one another. The first has to throw the rock accurately and without leaving his receivers out to dry. The second must catch the catchable passes.. period!

Its people like you that skew the view of Miles.
We have a talent level of the top 10 teams, yet we play and game plan like a top 25 team.
The talent level statement is based on number of players in the NFL.
The game plan and play statement is based on the production and the predictability of the offense.
Because of the latter, the former is made to be average.

The Fundamental Flaw is ....Les...

Think about it, we can win if and only if, we can line up and run over you.
What % of games have we won when it came down to coaching and game planing?
My guess is about 50%.
Every coach in the county knows it, so we lose to equal talent, and play close games to teams of lessor talent.

I mean there was a 7 year gap between 3000 yard passers at LSU. There was a 6 year gap between 3000 yard team passing seasons. Ridiculous for the amount of talent at WR and TE that we stockpile yearly. LSU hasn't had less than a 4 star start at QB since 2008 and that was it for Miles's tenure here.
Our guys can have all the talent in the world at quarterback (or anything, really), but if they don't have someone showing them the proper way to succeed, they won't. In hindsight, I don't think there's any argument that Gary Crowton was an abysmal hire... and what happened to Steve Kragthorpe was just terrible.
That being said, our coaches aren't going to transform these quarterbacks from high school standouts to All-SEC players overnight. It takes time to learn the position, especially when you're running a system that involves the quarterback making pre-snap reads, adjustments, and audibles.
In 2008 and 2009, Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson should have never started a single game. We all know what happened and why the former started as a redshirt freshman and the later started as a true sophomore. We had predictable results.
In 2011, we emphasized what worked best for the team's strengths. That defense was SO nasty that really all the offense had to do was not frick it up in 13/14 games. We didn't have many yards, but the passing game was efficient, and we were downright deadly in redzone situations.
In 2012 and 2013, Mettenberger threw for 2500 and 3000 yards, respectively. And while he failed to hit the 3000 yard benchmark that you set, again, Mett had to adjust to the level of competition as he had never played in an SEC game prior to that season and he came on extremely strong on the back end of 2012.
In 2014 and 2015, we had essentially a mirror image of 2008-09 although it was due to failures in recruiting rather than player misconduct. Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris each took over as true sophomores and while Jennings floundered, Brandon actually did extremely well in his first season, accounting for just shy of 2400 yards in only 12 games.
I understand the need to guard yourself against being optimistic about our passing offense this year, but I do believe that Brandon will put up equivalent or better numbers in the next to years to Russell or Mettenberger.

Leslie was nearly fired after last season for a reason. Be prepared for more of the same this year.
