The elephant in the room is attrition.

We can talk about the qb, the DC, however, the main issue is we started that game with 3 returning starters. 19 players from last year Gone.

It’s been an LSU problem more than any other school. The only time we got players eligible for the draft to return was last year. We won it all.

We have to find the recipe Clemson and Bama use to get high quality players to return or not quit. Trevor is going to be the #1 pick whether he plays or not. He chose to play. Travis Etienne, Devonte smith, Dylon Moses, Alex Leatherwood, etc. Compare that to S. Charles, Chase, shelvin, Vincent.

This is the difference from reloading to rebuilding. Our roster isn’t 85, it’s in the mid 70’s. We have had and continue to have to much attrition to be consistent.

When you have to play a cab who was on Nichols three weeks ago, this should tell you where your roster/talent level is at.

I agree. It’s the flip side of having a culture of NFLU . You have to convince all but the cream of the crop to stay for that 4th year to have the kind of program continuity that Bama/Clemson have.

Completely agree. It what separates us from Clemson and Alabama. Losing both coordinators didn’t help either

This is true. For whatever reason, LSU has had more players leave for no good reason so far as I can tell. That needs to change.

It’s a lot easier to get guys to stay when they didn’t just go 15-0. Those guys at Clemson and Bama have something to prove.

It’s a problem every year, for sure. Just pointing out that it was always going to be worse after a 15-0 season.

ETA: The guys like Jefferson, CEH, Queen, Delpit, etc. don’t bother me much. It’s the ones that leave early and end up being 7th rounders or UDFA that are really frustrating.

I don’t understand why LSU loses underclassmen football players at higher rates than any other school.

Been this way seemingly since les miles.

I usually look at Phil Steele's write up on retiring experience and it's a pretty good predictor of success. We were Top 10 in CFB in 2019 in returning experience. 2018 we were 13th in the SEC and bottom 10 in CFB.

I can't find his 2020 numbers, but it's worse than 2018.

So the timid play at QB

Awful O Line play

DBU getting burned in 1 on 1 play

Play calling with 1st And Goal

Can’t run the ball

Pelini with no adjustments

ARE NOT REASONS?

I guess BAMA never had to reload!!!

We were Top 10 in CFB in 2019

While true, Chase, Marshall, Moss, Clyde and Stingley were all first time starters last year. And...we should never get dominated by Mississippi State.

Losing a vast amount of talent from last year plus the two coordinators and then not having a spring session to teach the younger players translates to potential chaos to start the fall. In 1960 LSU had lost a huge amount of talent, including a Heisman winner, that in the two prior seasons had won a national title and were runner up for another, and was left with a lot of young players. They lost four of their first five games, then stunned the nation with a 6-6 tie of the 2nd ranked team in Oxford, Miss. They then won their last four games. In their next two seasons, 1961 and 62, they were formidable nationally. Just happens to be the season as a kid I was first taken to a game at LSU.
