The defense if fine 90% of the time, it's the big play that's hurting us

We are having breakdowns out there that teams exploit and we aren't adjusting

Everything is fixable, there's literally a half dozen big plays a game of late that we struggle with. Missed assignments, poor tackling.

What's alarming is the lateness of the season and repeated errors.

But its far less worrisome than being skull drug down the field.

It’s not getting better and it’s so late in the season that the bad habits have set in and I don’t think it can be fixed this season.

The offense will not be able to have an off game the rest of the way. Gonna be shootouts after next weekend

The big plays tell you we’ve had bad safety play

You’re reading way too much in to one game.

Let’s see what happens the last 2 of the year.

It was worrisome. We had two guys to worry about and they still rolled our defense.

I kept waiting for an adjustment

Safeties are hurt because of having to tackle downfield RB's because the LB's are out of position.

Bump. Said this in another thread.

Ole Miss was 2/11 on 3rd down + 1/2 on 4th. 600 yds doesn’t add up with that. They either allow absolutely nothing... or it’s a 20+ yard foot race. Very little back-end help/living to fight another set of downs. Every mistake turns into a TD.

right, but the defense does get crucial stops here and there that allow us to get a multiple td lead.

we do give up some seriously huge plays. i would love to see it corrected, but i feel our depth isn't the greatest.. especially in the secondary.

thanks joseph

Since KLavon isn’t a pass rush threat, he needs to move off the line and be a side to side playmaker. LBs and Safties arent playmakers.

This is a good post and perspective. We’d all like to have a dominant defense to go with our dominant offense, but it’s not happening. The silver lining is that the defense has great series and halves, and it also comes up with big stops. We give up an insane amount of explosive plays for TDs, typically due to missed assignments or tackles by one or two guys. I’d be a lot more discouraged if we were just completely inept defensively with no hope to stop anyone, but that’s not the case. LSU honestly just needs to make a few big plays to have a defense capable of winning a title this year. It’s not ideal, but it’s the way it seems to be.

Another silver lining with the defense is that its struggles have pushed the offense to perform time after time. Our guys are battle tested while OSU and Clemson haven’t had that challenge. Who knows how they’ll respond in a situation they haven’t been faced with?

I’ll also say this: Auburn has a dominant defense, and they are 7-3. LSU has a dominant offense, and we are 10-0. Enjoy the position we are in

They've relied on athleticism more than fundamentals defensively. So, when a team with a qb that runs a 4.3 comes and tests your gap, containment, and angles disciple.. you get exposed. It is fixable, but are they running out of time to fix it?

Lot of truth to that. LSU is ranked in the 70s in 30+ and 40+ yard plays.

Go look at all the CFP teams in last 4 years and I bet 75% of them had a similar game to LSU last night.

Probably higher percentage.

Completely agree. We don’t give up two 50+ yard runs (runs that CEO specifically said they need to fix at halftime) it’s a different game.

Agree. We know they can be, and most of the time are pretty damn good.

It's the big play almost every game that gets us.
