Pat Henry won like 10 championships in a row!!

Probably like UCLA won in basketball decades ago. The world changes. That’s not going to happen again.

Freshman Jake Norris finished 3rd and set a school record in the hammer throw. Sophomore Rayvon Grey jumped 26 feet and finished 4th in the long jump. Mondo Duplantis on the way to win the pole vault next year. I would say they are on the right track in the field events, not that you and others would notice. Oh, and freshman Damion Thomas finished 3rd in the 110 hurdles.

I would say Coach Shaver and staff have done a great job replacing all that was lost in roster turnover from last year's team, especially Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake and Michael Cherry moving on to the pros. Those guys were absolute studs. Hard to replace that kind of production in 1 year, but Shaver and staff did it with a great recruiting class to come back and finish 8th nationally with the men largely with freshmen and sophomores scoring the points.

Returning sprinter Jaron Flournoy finished 4th in the 200 meters also. Men's team is going to be GOOD next year after not losing any of their points from this year's team.

Now compare those Top 10 finishes to this:

quote:

Pat Henry is the current track & field coach at Texas A&M University. He is also the former track & field coach at Louisiana State University (LSU) where he won 27 national championships.

Women indoor national championships: 1987, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004

quote:

Women outdoor national championships: 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2003

The women win with any kind of field performances. The women are a 1 trick pony and it is all about sprints with him.

Mr. Shavers has been coasting on P. Henry's reputation and coattails.

Bertman did LSU "no favors" when he took Pat Henry's recommendation of hiring this guy.

He has had MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME to establish himself, Shavers, and he is just incapable. He simply keeps coasting on the fumes of Henry's Legacy at LSU T&F. It is the definition of MEDIOCRITY.

Shavers will keep up the BS until we hire a REAL AD who will fire him, til then we have a Goldbricker AD in charge, make no mistake!

As for the poster who mentioned Shaver's short-sighted "sprinter approach," that's what one can expect from a coach who came from Auburn where he was the women's sprint coach.....and he cannot even keep a consistent "baton exchange lesson" on the books, we drop and disqualify, men or women, every year....look it up.

Pat Henry told people at A&M that LSU stood for Last Second University.

While he may have one of the best indoor facilities in the country, the outdoor track is horrible and has never been touched the whole time he's been in College Station. It holds less than 1000 people and they don't host any meets of importance there.

ETA... they are working on building a brand new facility there finally.
