re: The decision to rush to the line after the Chase catch was great coaching.

It really blows my mind how many people on here hate orgeron so much that they won’t give the man credit for anything. I didn’t think he was the best hire but damn give the man credit for the things he did well.

If they gave that play time it would have been reviewed and would have been an incomplete pass. Some thought it was a touchdown but it clearly was incomplete. To not even risk it over one yard was great coaching. Even the commentators thought it was a touchdown.
It wouldnt have been ruled incomplete. He caught the ball and got one foot down around the 1 yard line then kicked the pylon and his foot appeared out of bounds at the time.
In college ball only 1 foot in bounds is needed and the catch is completed, it isnt as picky as the NFL

How about calling all 3 timeouts in the first quarter...was that great coaching as well?
Yes!
At that time, it was a field position battle and giving up 5 yards because the offense was a bit out of sync (on 2 of them) and then being certain your defense is set properly after a bunch of starters were out IS great use of those timeouts.
JEEBUS...proper use of timeout doesn't change by the clock. It is by the circumstance.

I am not sure it could have been overruled. If he was out of bounds before the alleged bobble, he was already down. Secondly he crossed the plane and had control.
Also, I wouldn't call it rushing. ABC had enough time to replay the catch, and Blackledge had time to discuss before the ball was snapped. The review booth had plenty of time to buzz down.

No, it would’ve been ruled a touchdown, but it was the correct call, you go with the info you have, and obviously someone thought it wasn’t caught.

I would contend that the hurry up to the line and snap the ball was too keep miami defense out of sorts they were on their heels
In the press conference yesterday, they asked Coach O about the play. He said they hurried up to get the play off because someone in the press box alerted the coaches on the field that Chase may have bobbled the ball.

Give the coaches credit. We could have been looking at this while the play was called back.

We got six points so it was a touchdown.

No, it wasn’t.

I was just typing the same thing. No way Les has the presence of mind to get that done. Heck he used to have an assistant follow him around the whole game telling him how many timeouts we had left. O is a big improvement over Les. People are very critical of O but we won against a team ranked in the top ten by people who do nothing but analyze college football all day 365 days a year. That's a big deal and I have a hard time understanding why some people wont let the team and coaches get credit for that.
The catch could have been bobbled on the way to the ground and it could have been reversed. I didn't see it initially on tv and was focused on the foot hitting the pylon but someone on the LSU side saw the bobble and decided to line up quick with a first down at the one. I respect others opinion but there is no way you can deny that that was a great on the field, in game coaching decision. Congrats to the staff.

This should be done any time a questionable play results in a big gain.

Yes, it actually was. A lot of coaches would have lived with the penalty to save the timeouts and that probably would have killed drives. It was a good decision to get the team and Joe calmed down and fix the mistakes early. Look at how few penalties we had after those timeouts. Try telling me we wouldn't have had more if we just let the kids fail on the field instead of using the timeouts to make sure they executed properly.
I'll tell you what else was great coaching. Going for it on those 4th downs. I was feeling it too just like Ed. He learned from the Notre Dame game, and said F that we're LSU and we can push your shite in to convert 4th and 1.

Wut? I agree it was good to just get up and score, but you're completely wrong

Is this where we post a picture of Troy celebrating last year? Why does Les need to always be brought up?

Les did it countless times.
If you want to pump up 0, he deserves legitimate praise for improving the talent level at kicker, QB, DL by aggressively pursuing some transfers.
I think the jury is still very much out, however, on whether we'll see consistent "great coaching" related to this offense.

Preseason polls are an absolute farce. And the voters in those polls often know very few details about each team, other than the obvious "returning starters" etc.
Good win for us, but I'll bet my house that Miami is nowhere near the top 10 by year end. Going back to last year, they're now riding a 4-game losing streak.
We'll find out what we're made of in 2 weeks at Jordan Hare.

When Miami doesn't get those crazy turnovers, they lose. Their defense depends on it. Plus, they need to find an accurate QB.
Burrow did a good job putting others in position to succeed, which includes not forcing the ball and turning it over. I don't really care about his stat line. I liked what I saw from him. Hopefully, the offense gets less predictable as he and the OC gain confidence.
