UF was forced into 17 third downs. That was clearly the plan, and it's a good one.

Exactly

You just don't expect them convert 9 of them. That was the killer.
And, frankly, this sort of tells you why we are doing the 1st thing.

We flat out of a few individual cover issues back there. Blitzing will just expose those MORE unless done HIGHLY selectively.

Hell, even in the 2nd half, we got burned at least twice blitzing due to flagrant coverage fails

I don't. I think you'll see a better mix of aggressiveness thrown in. We aren't going to sit back and let Tua tear us apart

Dude. We are going to do it MORE against Tua.

We are all going to barf in that game.

And, I frankly think that the team that loses that game will still score 40+

I think we have to accept that our secondary has a couple of dudes who are highly suspect and that blitzes leave them even more suspect

Maybe but giving the QB all day to throw and forcing the suspect DBs to stay in coverage longer does not help them.

Again I understand that this is the plan but it seems like a bad plan. Especially with our explosive offense

Bring pressure, force mistakes and turnovers, give our O more opportunities.

Yes it risks a few big plays but we finally have an offense that can overcome that.

I hate to obsess over Bama, but that’s the only team on our schedule that I think can beat us. And this defensive philosophy plays right into what they do best

If you leave Kary Vincent to cover one of their 3 best receivers with no extra help and blitz, Bama may average 2 play scoring drives.

I tend to agree. Fans see it as letting a QB tear you apart, but the truth is we're trying to force them to be perfect. Florida strung together a handful of perfect drives. They also had 4 punts in 5 plays or less.

Well, guess we'll see.

Middle was wide open all night. BAMA will tear us apart.

Only thing that’s embarrassing is this defense.

It was really only two (1 in the 1st half and the 1st drive in the 2nd). The other drives had gifts given to them, in the form of missed INTs and a PI on 3rd down.

I mean, precisely zero teams have "blitzed" their way into success against Tua.

Clemson just had an absurd front 4.

For the most part, everyone who blitzes Bama just gets to watch one of their WRs catch a 4 yard pass and turn it in to 50

What is this narrative Florida has an average offense? They have a loaded receiving corps and a talented back

When you don’t play enough zone to be perfect in executing it as a whole, then you don’t force them to be perfect. You react slow, get out of position and give them time to relax, read and play like it’s practice out there. What you see is poor execution of a scheme being taken advantage of, not other teams playing above themselves. Again, you cannot refute the fact that our defense has made two terrible offenses look good this year playing this way.

The sheeple are out in full force. “We are best team on the plant. Don’t question anything. We are so good it is impossible for us to improve.” Ok buddy we get it. You don’t think the team needs to work on anything or improve in any way. Point taken.

So just let Tua sit in a clean pocket and pick us apart?

They will score a TD every drive with that approach. Pressure him and he MIGHT make a mistake. And one mistake might be the difference in that game.

Not at all. Playing soft allows a group to perform without much pressure. Itsgiving them yardage. UF was nowhere near perfect, but had enough opportunities to succeed.

UF dictated the pace of the game. Their game plan was stellar. But we also let them keep Burrow on the bench

I loved what OU did to Texas in the first half and they demoralized Ehlinger.

They aren’t average, but at the same time, we watched a better defense shut them down for most of last week. Hell, Oklahoma did a better job vs Texas. Think about that. Let that sink in. Oklahoma that hadn’t had a passible defense in 8 years outplayed us vs a common opponent. Are we ok with the defense literally being sub-standard now and using scheme to justify that?

Shorty is throwing some knowledge in here.

My take exactly.

Our defense can't be the hammer all the time. It causes too much wear and tear on players bodies, needlessly whenever we can win games without the players abuse. It can be a hammer when used in the correct situations.

Florida had a lot of 3rd and longs that they converted, but that isn't the norm. In the second half, the odds caught up with Floridas offense and the hammer got used more. And with our offense, you don't have to exert so much energy on defense. You don't have as much wear and tear on our players over such a long and grueling schedule.

Blowing out and winning 42-14 against Florida would have been spectacular, but would it have been any less a win? If several defensive players were hurt while "dominating' the gators, would it be worth it? of course not

It’s been the norm this year.
