Our defensive players are not inept. They have to do what they are told.

Some of these people on here will bitch moan and complain because they are never happy. I am enjoying this football team. So what if the defense gives up some yards and points. We winning. Be proud of these young men for coming up clutch when they need it.

Not really. If Stingley doesn’t make that pick, we might still be playing

Nah. We won by 2 TDs.

Auburn and A&M will look at film and develop the same kind of game plan. Run clock, dink and dunk

We will see if we are more aggressive going forward. You can't let them control the pace of the game like we did with UF

And, we will let them.

We're gonna beat Auburn worse. And, we are gonna lay 50 on A&M.

And, we'll likely give up a solid 24 points to both.

One other thing to note from the last couple of games.

We FINALLY have a DL rotation! So, even with those long drives, we didn't look totally gassed in the 2nd half.

Let's face it. THAT is a huge leap from the Texas game

That's right. Their TOP was twice what ours was. This is unacceptable. It kills our defense. They need to get rest because Joe takes two plays to score and the poor defense has to get back out there. It's brutal.

First, LSU was playing a tough nationally ranked top ten team from the SEC. the idea that LSU would dominate easily on defense or offense was a pupil dream, imo. Inevitably,

It was going to be tense and hard fought on both sides of the ball. No doubt there are things that must be improved, but I feel good about the win and where we stand.

First of all O approves each gameplan and the schemes they run and I’m quite confident that between Aranda and O they know more about defense than the rant does.

When was the last time you saw an LSU defense that is as technically unsound as this one? You can talk about gameplay all you want, that doesn’t excuse bad tackling and poor assignment reads. Those go back to coaching. Don’t even get me started on this unit playing zone coverage.

If the coach can’t get the players to a point of success in a game plan, then we see what they are made of. A bad coach keeps hammering away. A good coach will make adjustments when forced. A great coach will adjust ahead of time to fit what he has. I’ve always looked at Aranda as a great coach, but he’s just acting like a good one at the moment. Because when does this D come alive- when we go back to aggressive man.

Nah, you can't let them have that much control over the game. You gotta try to force some poor decisions.

I like the pressure we brought in the 4th.

I'm merely telling you what we are GOING to do.

You gotta try to force some poor decisions.
This often results in easy points and, clearly, we've decided to not give those.

I like the pressure we brought in the 4th.
Which, we've done EVERY game

Eventually, you have to accept that this is the plan, whether you find it aesthetically pleasing or not.

The defense needs to develop some consistency for the long run, imo. It has to
Put together a full four quarters of aggressive play without missed assignments.
That said, the D has come through at some crucial times. But we can’t push our luck as we get to the stretch run.

Yes. This means you give up some 9 play drives.

But, so far, it's also meant that eventually, you lay and egg, and our offense creates point space for the defense to then take a few chances.

And what happens when we play a team that doesn’t lay eggs?

This philosophy will get us slaughtered by Bama

It's not a bad plan vs inferior competition. You can't play soft the entire game every game and expect to win though.

I was happy with the adjustments. The stunt by Brooks was awesome. It was clear after getting hit a few times Trask started making some mistakes.

Aranda has fallen in love with soft zone, and minimal rush. Until the 4th quarter Florida moved up and down the field seemingly at will.

He doesn't do it the entire game. He does it for MOST of the game.

I think we have to accept that our secondary has a couple of dudes who are highly suspect and that blitzes leave them even more suspect.

Also. That good teams eventually figure out your blitzes as a game progresses. They have coaches too ya know.

So, he has, in EVERY game, chosen to selectively come at you and try to create that one or two drive point space in the 2nd half.

I expect to see this for the rest of the season. And, it will drive me batty...……..but, it ain't no accident.

UF was forced into 17 third downs. That was clearly the plan, and it's a good one.

You just don't expect them convert 9 of them. That was the killer.

Anyone defending this unit playing drop 8 zone after what we seen in half a season needs their eyes checked. You make bad units, like Vandy and NWST, both of whom are VERY, VERY BAD, look good when you can’t execute it properly. Our D still cannot execute it properly.

He's clearly taking the "my offense is gonna score so, I'm gonna make you have to prove you can string together a bunch of long assed drives with no mistakes" approach.

It should be the opposite IMO. An explosive offense gives you the opportunity to take more chances.

If you give up the big play and they score quick, your offense can keep up.

I actually think the approach you described hinders the offense because it keeps them on the sideline too long, watching the D give up 10 play drives. They lose some momentum (not that they did in this game, but you get the gist of it).

This isn’t a binary problem. There are a lot of ways to play defense without blitzing that don’t involve dropping 7-8 guys in zone coverage and telegraphing that to the opposing QB ahead of time.
