Raymond is an awesome recruiter. Has not been a good position coach for multiple years now. Do not know what’s behind that, but the results speak to it.

It wasn’t due to Raymond. When are some of you going to learn that each positions recruiting is not the responsibility of the position coach. Do you think Nick Saban or Brian Kelly relied on their position coaches to get talent? That’s a ridiculous notion.

Exactly
See my post above about Rick’s and Stingley for example.

Also, I started a thread about LSU DB class from 2008. PP7, Mo Claiborne (although he was recruited as a receiver), and others.
All of these were here between 2009-2011.
That 2011 DB backfield may have been tGOAT 8/12 on the roster played in the NFL with most at a high level.

I think he might feel like he has something to prove and really step up his game.

Raymond’s success was a direct result of Les Miles and his recruiting and Dave Aranda’s coaching direction. When Aranda left he was lost and his defensive backfield was awful when we really needed him to be a legitimate force. Bo Pelini exposed him as a position coach. It continued after Pelini was fired. Florida hires him and he was cut loose there for the same reasons.

Did you see the results in 2020 and 2021? He got lazy while demanding more money every year. People soured on him for that.

I think the opt outs and players quitting on the team had a lot to do with Raymond especially after he was passed over on the defensive coordinator position. If he does come back we will have to believe Kelly believes he can get the job done

This needs to be a post and stickied.

We were DBU because we had a stud every class. Not because he developed them.

There are others who can land studs AND develop

This that dumb shite everybody keeps saying. Yet he was still recruiting at a very high level. Somehow that defense was his fault. This board is full of legit morons. Y’all just parrot each other until you believe something

This is very true and those that follow recruiting know it. That said, anytime we get a commit currently who is the first coach to get credit? Frank Wilson. Who do we blame for our perceived poor CB and DL recruiting? Not Frank Wilson. Instead we put it all on Lindsay not coaching and Steeples being inexperienced and not good enough. Wardell Mack is related to Frank Wilson and all the talk pre-summer regarding Mack's recruitment was "Trust in Frank" yet he couldn't even get a return phone call or visit since April. My issue is we don't call a spade a spade if it doesn't fit the narrative. Why?

Ignorant media personalities are saying he is still this great coach.

IMO, that is where the confusion is coming from.

Ask yourself, why was he fired at Florida after only 2 years?

Not a good look, but also consider who our coach was. Orgeron wasn't exactly inspiring anyone's best those last two years. It only follows that a HC acting selfishly would inspire his coaches to act the same.

Who was the high level recruit?

Ricks? Nope - Ed Orgeron knew the kid his entire life

Stingley? Nope - that was all Diamond Dave Aranda. Look at his in-home pictures.

Maybe Fulton. I’m trying to figure it out.
He didn’t recruit ANY of these players.

Noticeable drop off in technique once all of the DBs coached by Ron Cooper had cycled out.

Started out strong recruiting wise, tailed off the last couple of seasons.

Threatened to leave multiple seasons to get raises (a lot of posters hold that against him, but I’d bet it’s pretty common)

My opinion is he was overrated. DB play was better under his predecessor.

So why is chicken saying Baker is about to hire him?

we've heard they are close

any chance we're wrong about Raymond?

for a long time, people said "we can't lose him"

now it has flipped
