That happened several years ago. Many players on every college team are making more (millions/hundreds of thousands) than many NFL players. Everybody is a professional player now. That’s what makes stankey’s mandate so hypocritical. That horse left the barn years ago.

Do they even go to class anymore? When is the last time someone was declared academically ineligible?

I don’t blame commissioners for trying to salvage it.

frick 2020, the SCOTUS, Ed O’Bannon, Matt Moscona, and everyone who wined that the players were being eXpLoItEd.

They were being protected from themselves and the corrupting influence of the “free market”

Like so many destructive things, it started with a court decision.

America is built on the “free market”.

They were being protected from being able to do autograph signings, personal appearances, apparel with their names on it or even accepting a free meal.
Altruism was not the reason the NCAA, conferences continued the sham “amateur student athlete”. It was greed.
I’m not thrilled at the current state of college sports but this is not the athletes fault. The NCAA screwed the pooch. Players were going to win the right for NIL. No one told schools to form bogus collectives to create bidding wars.
The average fan has no idea what athlete do for the privilege of a scholarship. Meetings, weights/conditioning, practice, film study, injury, games.

They asked Carson Beck last year at Miami what classes is he was taking and he pretty much said the only time he drives to campus is for practice.
