this.
2019 erased a lot from people's memories.
they forget that in 2017, the AD had to literally sit in on coaches meetings to make sure O was letting his assistants do their jobs (yes, there were articles about this that year with Alleva discussing it).

This is laughable. The team made it to the SEC Championship game the following year with mostly O recruits.

As LSU fans, we almost unanimously felt we had all the potential in the world due to our recruiting, but were underachieving due to our dinosaur offense and our inability to beat Bama. Coach O took some chances to open up our offense and we had what felt like a miraculous season under him in 2019. We got to see the full potential we thought we had and then some which is all that we hoped for.
It crashed and burned quickly (predictable), but due to how awesome 2019 was and will forever be with beating Bama at Bama and going 15-0, I don't see why anyone would have hard feelings toward Ed O. I wouldn't trade 2019 for anything.

Coach O wants back in since the broad took half his buyout

This board is the biggest echo chamber on the site with the laziest takes copied from other posters.
We got the good and bad with Coach O. He didn't have the skills to navigate all that happened post natty and the new college football landscape. It is what it is. He didn't intentionally tank the program.

With the talent on the 2019 team....a blind monkey could have coached that team.

Like promoting Joe Sloan to OC even though he had minimal coordinator experience just to get the #1 recruit who wound up going to Michigan?

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
I think O intentionally tried to not frick up the program pre-2019. I think guys like Ensminger and Aranda did hold things together from a certain standpoint. In some ways, they were like training wheels.
After the natty, O got high on his own supply to some extent and took it as an vindication that he actually was a good head coach. This is pretty clear from his book.
He then made some dumb moves. I'm assuming he was following his gut and it steered him wrong. He also wasn't as focused as he was pre-2019.
He may have been able to hold things together without Covid, the portal, and NIL. All of that put him immediately in over his head.

If Sloan actually were a bad hire, why wasn't he replaced this last offseason?

THIS! Take the good with the bad. I'll chose to kindly remember the good times and championships that O, Les, Pawl (baseball) brought to LSU instead of re-hashing past screw ups that led to their demise and bashing them on a message board years later.

That 15 player signing class that offseason was awesome. You know since O told recruits to go elsewhere since he was a lame duck & all.

There were things that happened also that were out of his control.....namely a certain former player that is a cancer to LSU. O also caused some of it...but the behind the scenes bs with BLM didnt help at all.

That's what happens when potential assistant coaches don't want to hitch their wagon to guy who challenges players to fights, rips his shirt off & chases whores 24/7.

You probably also think Gene Chizik is a good coach

The his last two classes were disastrous and set us back years. BK actually rebuilt the trenches

I don't think any coach intentionally sucks.

95% of the fanbase isn't aware or simply doesn't care about the shitshow that Kelly walked into yet what you posted is factual.
