And in that case, he wouldn’t be fired. Landry is running around telling half lies, there was no way Kelly was getting fired without a donor footing the buyout.

Yes, for sure. I’m almost 100% certain LA taxpayers won’t pay a dime over BK’s $400k salary or whatever it is.

I just found it interesting that’s there’s a non zero chance that it was a possibility. That’s all politicians need to twist the narrative.

BK would NOT have been fired if our big boosters had not stepped up to the plate money-wise.

Moscona just told Finescum that Woody fired BK on his own.

The question is...who stepped up to pay the buyout?

Next question...who is stepping up to fund a new coach?

Landry stated clearly that he sat down with lawyers Sunday morning and the lawyers said that the state of Louisiana would be on the hook if the boosters failed to pay the buyout.

Moscona just told Finebaum this live on air.

Summary: Jeff is right that the LA taxpayers could be on the hook for the $53Mil buyout, BUT he’s acting publicly like there’s no superseding contract that was signed that protects the taxpayers.

IIRC the HC contract is funded by TAF so I would assume that compensation is direct from TF and not a pass through LSU. Athletic coaches salaries exceed public employee limits therefore the have to be 3rd partied.

Yes, this is what I always assumed. Jeff Landry could be lying today to cover his arse for his comments yesterday about LA taxpayers potentially being on the hook for the buyout.

His meeting with lawyers Sunday morning reviewing the contract may have never even happened.

I get Jeff’s point about LA taxpayers having to foot the $53Mil buyout if the boosters decide not to pay. That’s a terrible deal.

He has no point. Kelly wouldn't have been fired if taxpayers would have been on the hook.

Taxpayers only paid $400k of his 10 million dollar salary. IOW, taxpayers paid 4% of the money Kelly was paid while a coach and 0% of the total money paid to Kelly after his firing.

Landry is a moron and has no point

He's doing what politicians do...use a small modicum of truth (Kelly had a large buyout) and then lying with everything else that comes out of his mouth

What’s funny about this is the buyout will be private money. LSU or any public institution does not have general funds sitting in an account somewhere for rainy days.

However let’s look at all the public funds that have gone to the Saints and Superdome.

So who is responsible for the buyout? Isn't his contract with LSU?

Funding Sources for LSU Football Coaches' Salaries
Primary Source: University Budget

State Funding: A portion of the salary comes from state appropriations allocated to the university.

Tuition and Fees: Revenue generated from student tuition and fees contributes to the athletic department's budget.

Secondary Sources: Athletic Department Revenue

Ticket Sales: Income from football game ticket sales significantly supports the athletic budget.

Sponsorships and Advertising: Partnerships with businesses and advertising deals provide additional funding.

Merchandise Sales: Sales of team merchandise also contribute to the overall revenue.

Additional Considerations
Donations: Contributions from alumni and boosters can supplement coaches' salaries and the athletic program's budget.

Media Rights: Revenue from broadcasting rights for games plays a crucial role in funding.

The combination of these sources allows LSU to pay competitive salaries to its football coaches, including significant buyouts when coaches are dismissed.

The contract, which was posted in this thread, states LSU is responsible. And if it’s LSU, then Technically it could roll up to the state.

Either way, it’s an extreme exaggeration to go public with this possibility. Because 1, boosters will foot the bill. And 2, even if they didn’t, then TAF would cover it. It’s not even going to get to LSU, much less the state.

I looked at the contract that was posted in another thread and LSU has a singular contract for the whole enchilada. Funding sources are not stipulated in the contract.
