The blocking on this play was horrendous.

Pimpton is not a blocking TE

There was a hole on the left side. All Pimpton had to do was impede his guy a little bit and Emery gets the 1st down.

I'm not sure how fast USC 7 is but if the RB bounces outside its may have been a TD.

Not on this play but Pimpton had some decent down field blocks during the game. Pimton is a better blocker than Taylor though. I think we missed Mac Markway in this game.

If we are going to have a 12 personnel grouping with Pimpton and Taylor in the game Sloan better call plays that work better with that personnel.

Additionally look how far off the DB is from lacy. Should have been an easy check at the line.

No doubt. Nuss pulls that ball with a short slant to Lacy and it’s the easiest 8 yards ever gained.

John was too deep in the hole even for someone like CEH to bounce it outside.

Also noticed this on the rewatch.

A check with Lacy for quick slant and you have a big gain.

It makes it a lot easier on the D when they know which play you're running and to which side you're running.

I know right. Just a slant to the sticks and fall for the 1st down, at worse.

Terrible recognition by Nuss.

I wonder if Nuss lacks the confidence to check out of that play and into a quick pass to the slanting WR (when the DB give you that much room)?

The O-line didn't fire off the line on the snap. Lazy piss-poor effort on a crucial 3 and 1.

Our Offensive line doesn't block behind their pads, just look all of them are stand straight up trying to run block. We need to get out of the shot gun and run out of the pistol more. More downhill runs. Why are we still running zone read when the quarterback id no threat to run? Makes no sense.

Houston, we have a problem…

Note this is a straight up running play and no RPO… the OL never moved forward???

Am I so long out of the game that its normal for OL to sit back and receive the DL on a running play?

You are right. Nuss should have pulled it and made a quick throw to Lacy.

Probably right but the defense was crashing in when he got the ball. Although the blockers were there for a 1 yard gain but the OL didn't execute at all.

Right. Makes no sense.

The offensive personnel and play calling are incongruent right now.
