Former players used to say that Skip was at his absolute best when cracking X rated jokes behind the scenes in team reunions.

One of his pitchers was getting blasted & Skip walked out to talk to him. " Son, don't worry, this is my fault. Pitcher : "Why, Coach?" Skip : "I never should have recruited you". Many of his former pitchers have said he could be brutal at times, X rated brutal.

Florida had Spurrier and we had Skip. Lol. I miss the ol codgers of the SEC.

What makes this so funny is that if was all in good fun. He and Ron Polk were great friends. Ron Polk is the godfather of SEC baseball and convinced him to come to LSU. They were both not only just about their schools programs but promoting SEC baseball and the college game as a whole. Some SEC schools had parks that weren’t even good high school parks. Ocean Springs high school stadium was significantly better than Ole Miss. (but they were state champs in 82) lol
